The Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act of 2007 was introduced in March 07 by John Conyers. “Recent federal elections have been marred by a remarkable level of vote suppression,” said Conyers. “Voter intimidation, coordinated misinformation, and other irregularities were sufficiently widespread in closely contested races throughout the country to have affected the outcomes of these elections.
“The persistent election problems, resulting in significant disenfranchisement of voters, urgently need to be addressed. The Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act will provide voter protections and create strong penalties for those violating its provisions.”
The Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act will statutorily define “deceptive practices” as “knowing communication of false information.”
