HB 2661 Senate Vote live at 10:00am!

Today's the day, everyone!  Barring some parliamentary jujitsu from the troglodytes on the Republican side (always a possibility), we'll have a vote on HB 2661.  Click here to listen to Senate debate and the vote live.

Not to be outdone, HB 3238 has been introduced, making it a class C Felony to distribute false sex offender notifications.

Please contact Representatives Simpson, Lantz, Wallace, Morrell, Kilmer, Green, Springer, Dunshee, P. Sullivan, Quall, B. Sullivan, Grant, Appleton, Williams and Darneille and share with them your support of this bill.  And tell Representative Wallace to update her blog more often.

Remember, look on the sidebar to the far right of this page to find and contact your OWN Representative, and tell them to support HB 3238 as well.

Text of the bill below the fold.

AN ACT Relating to prohibiting the distribution of false sex
offender notifications; adding a new section to chapter 9A.84 RCW;
creating a new section; and prescribing penalties.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1. The legislature finds that attempts to
unduly alarm the public using fake sex offender notifications is
reprehensible and disgusting. Our world is a scary enough place
without opportunistic individuals or groups using phony boogeymen to
scare children and other vulnerable persons. It is the intent of the
legislature to protect our communities from the very real threats posed
by violent sex predators and from those that would seek to exploit
those threats by terrorizing the population with bogus notifications.

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 9A.84 RCW
to read as follows:
(1) A person is guilty of distributing a false sex offender
community notification bulletin if, with the intent to alarm, harass,
or intimidate any other person, he or she distributes information designed to resemble a sex offender community notification bulletin knowing that it is not a sex offender community notification bulletin.
(2) Distributing a false sex offender community notification bulletin is a class C felony.
(3) For purposes of this section, "sex offender community notification bulletin" means a bulletin created by law enforcement for the purpose of notifying the public about a registered sex offender under RCW 4.24.550.

I can not help but notice, that the day of the rally and now that the vote is coming near, the skies are clearing and God's light is truly shining on what will be a historic day in Washington State. Passing this bill is the moral thing to do no matter what religion.

I honestly belive that Cal Anderson is standing at the side of God with tears of joy in both their eyes.

Allowing gay rights will result in something supporters of this bill will not like? I wish he would say what that is. Repubs are the kings of hysteria.

He said his own daughter 'chose' to be a lesbian, and he wouldnt accept her and her partner in his house. He called it 'tough love'. Bullshit, that is called bigotry and hate.

Telling the kindergarten kids not to discriminate against people because of their (long list of things here which includes) sexual orientation - is the same as promoting the lifestyle.

And she claims that not even gays enjoy their lifestyle - did I hear her correctly?

Hey Brian or Switzer. I have to go to the lunch with Cantwell and Clinton. Please call me at 375-1165 when this is passed. Would be great to get the news and have Senator Cantwell announce it to the crowd.

As I listen to the speeches of the Repug-Lie-Cons I am struck by the clear split in their party between those who have a genuine, all be it fundamentalist, religious reason for their vote and those (more clear bigots) who seek to justify their no votes based on some home spun false interpretation of the law and what it will or will not do.
I feel just sad for people like Bob Oak and sad for religion when religion is the true deeply felt reason for a no vote. But for the rest who are spinning reasons they do not even believe to mask their bigotry, I feel mad and shame for them.
