"President Bush told nervous lawmakers in his own party on Friday that Republicans should stress the economy and the war on terror as they move deeper into the election year." from:
Bush Tells Nervous GOP to Focus on Economy
Wow, it sounds like George Bush is confusing the people he TRULY cares about, CEO's and other people who get most of their income from something besides salaries, and the voters, who have to work for a living. We know the CEO's and others in the top few percent of income are loving those big tax breaks given out during wartime. But what is the feeling among the 95% of people who get buy on wages instead of dividends?
"Americans begin 2006 with more negative attitudes about the economy than in January 2005 or January 2004. Americans are in particular more inclined now than as the previous two years began to perceive that the economy is getting worse, rather than better. All in all, almost half of Americans can be classified as having negative views about the economy, with about one-third of Americans having positive views and the rest holding mixed opinions." from:
Americans More Negative Than Positive About Economy.
But then again, what else could the Republicans run on? Corruption in Congress? Leaking CIA agents names from the Vice-Presidents office? Our progress in Iraq? Whether the war was justified in Iraq? The governments performance during Katrina AND its current performance in cleaning up the mess?
I guess the economy is the lesser of evils to campaign on...
