Republican Attack on Eastside DFA Falls Flat

[ED: Frontpaged NM]

On April 11, 2006, the Washington State Republican Party filed an FEC complaint against the Darcy Burner campaign alleging that Eastside DFA and myself made illegal campaign contributions to Darcy in the way of our free videos.

Their baseless complaint, filed without having gathered facts, is typical of the Republican Party's petty, ignorant political methods. Diane Tebelius, Chair of the Washington State Republican's, signed the complaint. In it, Eastside DFA blog entries are quoted, and our support for Darcy's campaign is detailed.

They are terrified of the grassroots and the support Darcy has garnered from her army of skilled volunteers, who are working tirelessly within the law to unseat the DeLay puppet Dave Reichert in Washington's 8th Congressional Disctrict. Our are produced for Darcy's campaign free of charge, by a private citizen, volunteering to help elect Darcy.

Darcy's campaign has clearly and effectively refuted the complaint, and Eastside DFA is proud to become a target of the Washington Republican Party. We will be taking this story to all local press and blogs, to state loud and clear: private citizens in our democracy are affecting change from the grassroots, and notice has been served to the Republican Party: we have only begun to fight.

On Thursday, the PI and Eastside King County Journal picked up the story of the FEC complaint. Then the Washington Times of Washington DC decided to jump in. The story has gone national.

What is at the core of this issue is the democratization of media, the power of the grassroots, and the Republican Party's inability to see that we are in a new era of citizen activism, where powerful tools can be brought to bear by ordinary folks.

It boils down to a transformation taking place. Read Moulitsas and Armstrong's CRASHING THE GATE. Popular influence in elections is growing, and why shouldn't it?

Washington 08 is becoming a true proving ground of trends in electioneering.

Stay tuned for more.

Curious the WA Dems have not weighed in. Not for Darcy, not for Eastside DFA, not at all.

Is this an indication of how the fight for the 8th CD will be waged?

IF you treat these scum nicely, you'll lose.

Rove's toadies play out of the same very simple play book - they are the third grade bully, and the only thing that stops them is hitting back.

I know a lot of us are in politics to elevate the world above 3rd grade bullying, but

as Dukakis, Gore and Kerry should have learned before they ran for President - taking the high road doesn't win.

Something has to get the grassroots going.

if your actions are making the WA R's and Tebelius this concerned.  I have read the complaint and think it shows how out of touch the WA Republicans are with the grassroots, including what is legal for activists to do on their own.

leadership actually has difficulty understanding the community 'barnraising' kind of effort that Darcy's campaign is inspiring on the grassroots level.

The moves they're making against homeless voters, grassroots activists, etc.  ... makes them look a bit like the Dursleys -- you know, Harry Potter's adopted family that makes the poor boy sleep under the stairs....

I came back from a week in Florida and saw the article in the PI.
