Marriage equality ruling tomorrow!

Good lord, you guys, nobody has anything to say about this?  The marriage equality lawsuit has been wending its way through the court system, with victories for equality in two courts now.  Arguments were heard last year at the Supreme Court, and we've been waiting ever since.  (btw, IMHO, good news for equality could equal bad news for Democrats in November - for example of unintended consequences, see CAO + 2004 election = painful losses for 5th District Dems)

I'll have thoughts later tonight (got a Mariner game to get to), but for now, below the fold is the full e-mail announcement of tomorrow's events to celebrate equality/discuss defeat from Equal Rights Washington.

Remember, 8:00am we start hitting refresh.  I'll get a convo going here about that time.

Dear Switzer,

Tomorrow the Washington State Supreme Court will issue its decision on the marriage equality lawsuit.

Events are being planned in Seattle and around the State. Please check the Equal Rights Washington web site for updates throughout the day. The events below in Seattle are confirmed. Goldy writes that the Olympian will be holding an 11am chat session with state Sen. Dan Swecker, R-Rochester, and state Rep. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, about Wednesday morning's gay marriage ruling by the state Supreme Court.

Here is the form for submitting questions in advance.

I went down to Olympia last May with Christine Hawkes, the producer of Pirate TV's south end edition, for the Mayday for Marriage event. We interviewed people on both sides of the issue. I hid my opinion -- as I'd been asked to do so by the Unitarian church I belong to. There was a march in support of gay rights by the clergy of various churches and other religious organizations, and there was a concern to keep things low key.

I was very struck by the fervor of the anti-gay people I talked with -- who thought that, if they did not do their utmost to uphold sexual righteousness, all our souls would be damned. God curses and casts into Hell entire civilizations if there are not enough Godly people upholding His sexual law. Also, I heard medical arguments (?!) One of the most outrageous anti-gay people, dressed in fatigues and holding a bullhorn, leaned in close to me and told me I was very attractive! What could I say but.. Thank you!

I also spoke with a devout Christian who was there to pray because the anti-gay people were so mistaken. He wanted God to help them.
