When the Evergreen Freedom Foundation brings its case against the Washington Education Association to the Supreme Court, they'll have the honor of producing the kind of irony that only comes once in awhile. Their lead plaintiff, Gary Davenport, a former social studies teacher, sued because he didn't like his union using his dues for political purposes and had to quit teaching because it didn't pay enough.
Jim Anderson, who blogs at 5/17 puts it this way:
I seem to recall a particular union spending nearly all its political capital to change that.
Thank God he's forcing the WEA to focus on what is really important, defending themselves from lawsuits instead of fighting for education funding.
