Politicians with their hands out for money

Being the trouble maker that I am, I wrote the following to Chris Gregoire's campaign regarding the latest plea to donate at least $100 to her campaign. Be sure to read at least the last sentence! Then feel free to use the idea to send them your own message! The contact name is Ansley Alacitis, the email address is: alacitis@chrisgregoire.com

"Hi Ansley, I keep getting emails from you inviting me to an event for Chris Gregoire. And, while I appreciate the invitation very much, our household cannot afford $200 for the two of us to go to an event and then pay for parking down town. Have you considered sending out an email to your list inviting us to have House Parties, including a conference call, for Chris? That way, supporters around the state can have a small gathering in their homes with the ability to collect small ($5.00 and up with a "suggested" donation of $20 or $25) amount but with a stipulation that no donation is necessary at all. This worked quite well for Howard Dean. This would allow many many people to get to at least hear the Governor up close and personal. You could arrange for 4 or 5 people around the state to ask questions and have them answered. I don't know how to set this all up, but with your resources, I'm sure you could find out. Moveon.org has an excellent system and they could perhaps help you. The Governor would only have to schedule about 20 to 30 minutes for the actual call. You would probably need to supply sign in sheets to the Hosts along with instructions for inviting friends and family and for participating in the call Just my two cents worth. Simply following a link and donating is not very appealing in this time of every politician and issue wanting a piece of my hard earned money. Working hard on getting Public Financing for elections would eliminate the need for "Dialing for Dollars" and allow our "Public Servants" more time to actually do their jobs. Respectfully, Barbara Whitt PCO 46-2373 Sgt @ Arms 46th LD"

skimming some of the commentary about the Benaroya Hall event this week with HRC I found the following ...

----------------------
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/336479_hillary23.html

State Democratic Chairman Dwight Pelz told the audience that Clinton's appearance had turned the Magnuson Awards ceremony into "the most successful event in the history of the Washington State Democratic Party." The party sold 1,200 tickets at $100 or more and took in an estimated $150,000."
-----------------------

I recall hearing or reading memes along the lines of 'movers and shakers' at Benoraya

too bad you are 1 of the unmonied unwashed !

wait till next summer when all the 'leaders' who've been taking impeachment off the table come knocking and dialing for dollars, cuz

the fascists are coming, the fascists are coming!

gregroire is actually 1 of the few senior Dems in this state I am NOT fed up with. hope her campaign gets going beyond the coach bag set.

In the last campaign, small fundraisers were frequent across the state and this time, when the campaign gets up to full speed I hope a higher tech element can be worked in.
For now, meaning from this point up to the freeze 30 days pre session, the game is all about raising as much money with a little of the Gov's time as possible. Do not be offended by this. Would you not prefer to see the Gov as focused on the business of this state as possible, while not harming her chances at reelection. Rossi will be free to raise money during the freeze. He will have no problem catching up.
Public financing would remove this from our process of carrying out democracy. Till then our leaders must be effective at raising the money that will give them a chance at being reelected.
