Washblog

Washblog business cards -- Updated! New choice!

Remember the graphics competitions when we started Washblog, searching for a an appealing header design?

The West-East Washington montage with gratuitous stars that we ended up with (cough, see top of page) isn't anything that could be reproduced on a business card. But we DO NEED a business card to promote the site. Noemie and I decided the blog name and slogan would be on the front with the option of adding your personal contact info on the reverse.

UPDATE : NEW CHOICE #5! Forget the Chamber of Commerce east-west, rain-sunshine mountains-plains dicotomy, that's not meaningful. This image focuses on what we DO--at a glance.
No need to guess, it's obvious. VOTES????

Previous attempts:

#1. Here we have a Washblog logo design that I offered awhile back, whimsically contrasting the eastern & western halves of the state. Although its beauty is most effective larger, with the colors glowing on the screen, still it's attractive on a white card, with a modern and clean font.

But wait! Maybe it's almost TOO pretty, too serene. Would it be suitable for seabos, for instance, or Ivan? Do we want an edgier, more provocative image? Something like--THIS?

#2. It says:
WAshington.
Outspoken.
Trendy grunge typewriter font.

Maybe that image seems TOO confrontational. We ARE edgy--yet we stress civility.

#3. Here we have a symbolic portrayal of our blog. Blue background: we're Democrats (mostly).
We air Washington's dirty linen, yet we're trying to clean it up!! Wash-blog, get it?

Being so simple, the image would be appreciated even at a much smaller size.

By the way, I DID try to design something that utilizes parts of our present header, with its distinctive stencil font and fat stars--the kind that pop up by default on Photoshop & Illustrator if you're too lazy to adjust the shape.

#4. As you can see, this card SUCKS. Looks like a right-wing site!! Why oh why a stencil font, which represents a military or industrial theme, and why rows of stars? Clearly, stencil fonts and stars suck rotten eggs.

Sorry, I HAD to say it.

Please VOTE!

as long as your took your anger management class and your f$$$ing prozac, AND

as long as you agree with me,

THEN it is discussion and NOT

shiver, quake, recoil, hide

NOT debate.

HEAVEN forbid there be debate!

#1: Inoffensive. Why couldn't you have reproduced a topview/asimuthal effect of what is in the logo (which is some sort of latitudinal slice)?

#2: No. Ugly snack hole billboard attack. Cheap television talking chihuahas. Other things too scary to mention.

#3: Hung out to dry.

#4: Sucks, but might fool people if we decided to infiltrate and get the real scoop of what's going on on the "other side".

My azimuthal perspective -especially after a famous Seattle independent avante garde film maker invited himself to our house in Bay Center so he and his sweetie could watch the Academy awards - all four hours of it - because his Bay Center still-under-construction-alternative residence has no cable or satellite - and we watched Gore about to declare his candidacy until the music signalled him to stop talking and go siddown - and when Tom Cruise came on to interoduce some great humanitarian named Sherry Lansing - who our self-invited guest said that all the Hollywood biggies did not like Lansing - and that Clint Eastwood rolled his eyes when Cruise named her name - and that my visitor was pulling for the documentary film from Seattle about Iraq but since Hollywood wanted to make a political statement against Reflublicans and that  that Gore's movie was inconveniently a truthful shoe-in - not a shoephone in either - so that Hollywood could repudiate the president who didn't get the most votes in 2000 - and when Degeneres started vacuuming the front row and making Penelope Cruz lift her dress and hold it in so the vacuum wouldn't rip it clear up to her bodici - my avante gard filmaker friend thought that was too avante garde - or when Degeneres got Spielberg to take a picture of her with Eastwood and then made him do it over because the angle was bad and the picture was bad and Spielberg the producer/director should know better - and -- where the hell was I going with all this?

Oh yeah, azimuthal ...

I like card design number #1
