Have Inslee and Murray forgotten where their power originates?

[Front paged, NM. A source for this info: Lisa Brown says Congress on Task with Bush and Iraq, and DC Dems want to stop legislative impeachment talk, both from Postman on Politics, 2/26/07.]

Rep. Inslee and Sen. Murray are the ones who are out of bounds. Truly progressive representatives would never try to keep the people they represent at bay. To the contrary, they would (figuratively) take off their tennis shoes and loafers, put on some "shit kickers" and fight with us, not against us.

I read today that Rep. Inslee and Sen. Murray lobbied our sate legislature in opposition to two bills they should have championed. Senator Oemig's bill calls for investigation into impeachable offenses by the Bush administration. Senator Kohl-Welles' bill communicates Washington State opposition to increasing troop presence in Iraq.

Rep. Inslee and Sen. Murray should be sent Spineless Citations for lobbying against citizens using their Constitutional right to enforce a check on executive authority, and provide a level of executive accountability that they themselves have been unwilling to initiate. Shame on them. And shame on the entire US Congress for allowing the disaster in Iraq in the first place, then funding it year after year. This is Washington State business because it has cost Washington State dearly in priceless lives and at least 9.6 billion dollars (National Priorities Project).

Rep. Inslee and Sen. Murray are the ones who are out of bounds. Truly progressive representatives would never try to keep the people they represent at bay. To the contrary, they would (figuratively) take off their tennis shoes and loafers, put on some "shit kickers" and fight with us, not against us. They would be ever thankful for our banging on the doors and providing them "street heat" - the very source of their authority - to negotiate good policy and proper oversight on our behalf. They would never confuse where their power originates, and that's with "We the People."

We saw Daniel Ellsberg speak at the recent Citizen's Hearing on the Legality of the U.S. Actions in Iraq (short answer, it's all illegal), where he made the point that cutting funds off for the Vietnam War went hand-in-hand with efforts to impeach Nixon. As Ellsberg tells it, Nixon couldn't veto the spending cuts for fear of encouraging more representatives to vote for impeachment.

Murray, Inslee, and others need to figure this out: To get the US out of Iraq, we need to pressure Bush with impeachment. A two-pronged strategy, if you will.

Patty Murray's two-word reply to impeachment talk -- "Dick Cheney" -- is just plain silly, IMO. The Bush Presidency has been far more effective in implementing Dick Cheney's policies than a Cheney Presidency could ever be, as she must know. Removing Bush is like removing the happy-face mask & revealing the face of evil for what it is. I say, bring it on!

While I don't really know why Murray and Inslee didn't take these bills and cheer, I am proud of Murray for her recent work to fight poverty. I think what our representatives really need our our "real" voices.  Give them a call and let them know how you feel- feel about the war, about Bush, and maybe even more importantly how you feel about the Millennium Development Goals!

I don't see why impeachment can't be a package deal--Bush and Cheney.

So, why should it be a problem if all of a sudden Nancy Pelosi is president? I think she'd make a great president.

He spoke against impeachment last year at one of the WSDCC meetings because he feels that he owes his initial election in 1998 to backlash against the Clinton impeachment, and he doesn't want a similar backlash directed against Democrats.

This is a different situation, though.  Cheney/Bush are not only persistently refusing to get out of Iraq, they have their sights squarely set on a nuclear attack against Iran.  Someone ought to ask Inslee what his Plan B is to forstall that if he rules out impeachment from the start.
