John McKay and the Saturday Night Massacre

That John McKay is going to talk about what got him fired at the Moderate Republicans conference next month, reminds me of how it seems to be a tradition among Washington Republicans to get run over in Justice Department purges. Bill Ruckelshaus, a Dan Evans style Republican of some repute around here still was fired during the original Saturday Night Massacre back in 1973.

Anyway, it will be funny to maybe see Ruckelshaus and McKay posing for pictures in a month. I wouldn't doubt him being on hand to talk about Puget Sound restoration, he's heavily involved in that area right now and its a topic of the conference.

Here's an old Washington Post story about the Massacre.

Or do you have to be a registered "moderate Republican"? It would be great for you to get a bird's eye view of the talk and report back to us. See if you can diguise yourself as a Mod Rep, wearing a grey suit and yellow tie, or something.

"[A] Dan Evans style Republican"

Well, let's talk about that for a moment.  When Willi Unsoeld died on Mt. Rainier, Old Dan broke the news to Jolene.  And then he stabbed Jolene in the back when his Republican overlords told him to.  And thanks to Old Dan, we were forced to suffer through Linda Smith.  But one must ask what kind of person would do something like that? [Answer: A Dan Evans].

Old Dan was a big supporter of the Growth Management Act as long as it only affected other people.  But when Jefferson County told Danny that he couldn't build a huge home on Hood Canal's Bolton Peninsula, he raised a huge stink, claiming a long Evans family tradition of doing exactly what they wanted to do.  IIRC, JeffCo told him to go jump in the canal.  But one must ask what kind of hypocrite would champion a law that applied to everyone but himself? [Answer: See above].

Shorter Dan Evans: A smile on his face, a knife in your back.

In the mid 90's when mod R's wer run out of the party by Dino, Nona and others, it became clear that a backlash was exposing non-involved moderate R's to moderate D candidates when faced with only a right wing GOP choice. So the gop created the Mod GOP sect and every chosen candidate is dubbed a member thus giving them a Mod GOP res to talk up. Only Craswell was too right wing for this sect. She just could not fake it like Rossi can.
