Will McKay bring down Reichert?

Pete over at Cool Aqua answers the question of why Dave Reichert put a person on his list to run the U.S. Attorney's office in western Washington who didn't even have a license to practice law here. He also connects the dots on how the firing of John McKay could also bring down Rep. Reichert, who seems to have way to close a connection to the machinations of the firing.

Awhile back I suggested that Dino Rossi may end up needing to answer some questions about McKay, now it looks like Reichert needs to answer some more immediate questions.

Go get 'em Pete!

of ferreting out this information. The only caveat here is that Reichert and the McKay brothers are very old, good friends, so, considering their history, it would seem counter-intuitive for him to be a part of this kind of planning from the beginning. I think, once again, the sheriff has found himself in the middle of something he can't really handle and, probably, now can't explain.

But I agree with Pete that it all eminates from Rove's office. I probably sound like a broken record on this, but I still think that Glynda Becker, Rick White's former congressional aide, and later Rove's west coast assistant just before the US atty firings, is someone who needs to be subpoenaed. She's the one who acted as the liason between Chris Vance, Bob Williams, Tom McCabe and Rove's office, when they were all out for McKay's blood after the 2004 gubernatorial election.

Part of being ethical, is maintaining the appearance of being ethical.

It is pretty clear that Reichert took this action, knowing of the strong ties to Rove.

At the very best this was was a bad judgement call on Reicherts part.

In the worst case however, its conspiracy to install a US Attorney for purely partisan reason, a highly illegal action.

It seems that all its going to take to get Reichert in really bad trouble is a correspondence, e-mail, or phone record showing that he discussed his recommendation (or recieved his recommendation), from the White House Office of Political Affairs.  With three congressional investigations into these type issues, it will be interesting to see if they look into this.

Law expert Johnathan Turley specifically discussed this {replacing a US Attorney for partisan political reasons) on Olbermann last night.  Turley said that he didn't want to sound like a broken record, but he coudn't repeat enough how illegal this type action was.
