Progressive Roundtable sponsors rare local performance of Guy And Candie Carawan

The Tacoma Progressive Roundtable is sponsoring an event for the Highlander Research and Education Center's 75th Anniversary on August 4th. Guy and Candie Carawan, who have published many books and recorded and released many albums, as well as being political activists, are going to be performing. It's Guy's 80th birthday as well. He served as the music director of Highlander in the 60's and 70's.
The event will be taking place at the main stage at Commencement Bay Coffeehouse in Tacoma, Saturday, August 4. Snacks will be served beginning at 12pm, the event begins at 1pm.
Our featured speaker is a professor at UW, Tacoma, who has been to Highlander, Mike Honey. He will be followed by a documentary produced by the Carawan's daughter, Heather, who is an independent filmmaker now based in Tacoma. Guy and Candie's performance will follow thereafter.
The Highlander Research and Education Center has been located near New Market, Tennessee, for 75 years. The center has been involved in labor, civil rights, immigration, and a host of other issues since its inception. For more information please visit

Guy Carawan is an American folk musician, and has served as Music Director and Song Leader for the Highlander Research and Education Center in New Market, Tennessee.
