Ivan Weiss to seek House seat in 34th District

[Front paged: NM. Ivan Weiss is the Chair of 34th District Democrats.]

As a politico, I would have to say that some weeks are filled with notable events while others fall flat. This week was filled with untimely deaths, surprising resignations and campaign declarations.

More below the fold:

In the 34rd, Erik Poulsen has announced he will step down to take a position with the State PUD org. He will be good in that position but will leave a vacancy. This vacancy will be filled by a house member creating a house vacancy and both will be filled by a vote of elected PCO's.

And... who but our own Ivan Weiss, is the most likely pick for the House vacancy in the 34rd.

In my view, the 34rd and the people of this state will be well served should Ivan be selected. House Dem leadership will get an astute and strong voice and a tireless campaigner and I have met few local political people who so clearly grasp the "one Washington" concept.

Make us proud my friend.

And, the House won't know what's hit them :)

I am glad to think that Ivan might be a legislator.

It is perfect to have someone who has worked so hard to build the 34th LD, to increase grassroots participation and to connect to the netroots, a word he doesn't even like to use.

Go for it, Ivan

Of the many Democrats I have met over the past 4 or 5 years, I can think of no one with more passion, motivation, and ability to serve than Ivan. I sincerely hope that the elected PCOs of the 34th LD Democrats will seek the opportunity they have to move Ivan's name forward in the nominating process. They and the citizens of the 34th (as well as the state) will be well served with Ivan in the legislature.

Besides Ivan, below is the list of others that I know are running:
Toni Lysen, former Chair of 34th Dems, who was also appointed to fill a vacant State Rep. position some years back.
Sharon Nelson, King Co. Councilmember Dow Constantine's Chief of Staff
Greg Doss, Treasurer of the 34th Dems.
Tim Nuse, 2nd Vice Chair of the 34th Dems.
Burien City Councilmember Jack Block, Jr.
Burien City Councilmember Lucy Krakowiak
Tania Maria Rosario, who works for the State Party
Sharon Maeda
Kim Becklund

Since it has only been three days since Sen. Poulsen announced he will be resigning, it is likely there will be others who decide to throw their hats into the ring.

And, while I do not think this should be tough, the fact is that those who care should be working to help him round up these votes, reviewing bylaws and roberts rules and the norms in terms of how meetings are held in his district.
For Ivan, the meetings will be limited until the vote in terms of what he can or will try to say on his behalf. He will in no way use his office as chair to tilt the scale, but other prominent PCO's and members can and should speek up (at least under good of the order) about how good he would be in the role of House member. Take no vote for granted but respect the pco's even as you lobbey them for their support of Ivan.
For me, I just look forward to TVW being far more entertaining as Ivan works hard for us while not suffering a loss of humor.
