Al Qaeda Sets Pants On Fire, America Panics.

A bunch of Dominionist, Fundamentalist Muslims that was new to me - Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula - claimed responsibility for the SNAFU-filled work of "Pants Bomber" Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab. You'd think they'd be too embarrassed, but they apparently know America better than I do.

The Obama Administration has been reduced to quivering panic. Forget FDR-like proclamations of "nothing to fear but fear itself" from this bunch.

It's rare - and not, like, endangered-species rare, but more on-the-verge-of-extinction rare - that I agree with a Wall Street Journal opinion piece - come to think of it, make that comet rare or maybe asteroid-hitting-the-earth rare. But I agree with this at least half of this one:

Rules have to actually deter terrorism, not simply leave passengers cold and running for bathrooms when deplaning.

The above is totally sensible. What it's doing coming from the Wall Street Journal, I have no idea. I do have an idea which parts I disagree with because they are the parts the New Republic agrees with. Marty Peretz sings the praises of no-fly lists and, with a knowing, inside-the-Beltway chuckle suggests to Progressives:

...please, let's not "civil liberties" this one to death.

Meanwhile, on the front lines of a real fight against oppression, Iranian protesters for freedom are both fighting their armed oppressors hand-to-hand and then protecting individual members of the security forces from revenge attacks. The take-away from all this is simple: When Osama bin Laden suggested that America is weak and cowardly, he was apparently correct.
