WRITER'S PAGE

Washblog's editors are progressive activists who provide ongoing direction for Washblog's coverage, promote the site in the community-at-large and among progressives, contribute articles on a regular basis, maintain a regular onsite presence, and help maintain Washblog as a positive and empowering forum adhering to high ethical standards.*

Washblog is a community forum and all participants share responsibility for upholding these standards. Editors and other contributors to this site bear no legal responsibility for and imply no endorsement of the content posted by other editors or community members. Actions taken to uphold Washblog's Content Policy, such as deletion of comments thought to be in violation of that policy or communications with contributors, are editorial in nature and done at the discretion of each editor and the board as a whole.

ONGOING RECRUITMENT
We would like to add 2-3 additional editors for coverage and outreach on current local events, political ethics, progressive infrastructure, and our other areas of interest. We have a need for board members from communities of color and we are actively seeking to achieve that. We welcome recommendations and input to help us in that process.

To "apply"
Please review our Mission, Content Policy, and the items below; consider contributing a story or two if you have not already/ and then write us at info@washblog.com. Please CC to clover40seven@yahoo.com.

Editorial Board members hold the following credentials and are committed to the tenets outlined below:

  • Activism in the progressive movement, and familiarity with blogging in general. An example would be someone who contributes to issues via the Internet and physical attendance to meetings and causes that are related to Washington State politics. A sense of civic duty with self-motivation is paramount.
  • Ability to write clearly, to accurately fact-check, and to use (or learn) basic formatting for readable text.
  • A dedication to supporting Washblog's credibility and upholding ethical standards in their contributions to the forum. Editorial Board members should aspire to fairness, accuracy, and accountability in every post and comment on Washblog. A good example of a standard to follow when writing for Washblog is the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics. There are important differences between blogging and traditional journalism that affect how we apply ethical standards. For example, Washblog writers are advocates, some of us politically partisan, who strive for accuracy and fairness -- but not impartiality.
  • Dedication to Washblog as a positive and empowering forum. Defeatist and conspiracy writing is opposite to the mission of the Editorial Board.
  • Commitment to fostering the expression of the full range of progressive viewpoints on Washblog and promoting vigorous debate in a civil and dignified manner. Editorial Board members set an example for readers and community participants through respectful interactions with others in recognition that ad hominem attacks, name-calling, and other forms of unproductive tone close off dialogue and re-direct the subject.
