Somebody has to say it

[Front paged NM]

...because Ivan is too modest tell us that he was awarded the Democratic Party's Warren Magnuson Award for "Democrat of the Year," together with Wendell Hannigan, Chair of the 15th LD ("sister" district with the 34th).

Ivan only got it because he insisted he did NOT want to be "Chair of the Year." Very clever, Ivan!

I hate to stereotype people, but to me, the dignified buffalo-vested gent in the middle between Ivan and Rep. Rick Larsen does NOT look like a "Wendell Hannigan." THIS guy at left looks like a "Wendell Hannigan."

I spent $75 for a ticket to this event because I was assured that "LD Banner Designer of the Year" was one of the categories. It was NOT!!

More pictures below....

Ivan was not the only one from the 34th so honored.

Tanya Aguilar, our Vice-chair, was "Rising (female) Star of the Year" presented by Darcy Burner.

Darcy looks like she's about to leak a few tears; Tanya's acceptance speech was touching, although as usual when I'm taking pictures, I can't recall what was said.

Tanya also got an award as member of the "Best Organizing Effort," the Latino Vote Project, which registered 4000 (?) new voters this year.  Jim McDermott presented this  award. What a thrilling night for Tanya!

I SO wanted to meet Russ Feingold and add him to the list of VIPs whose DNA touched mine, but was not able to. SOME of us could not spring for tickets to the "private reception"!

Next time Russ appears in Seattle, I'm gonna find a way to beat my way through the Secret Service agents to grab a photo-op.

Russ Feingold's keynote speech was brilliant, though. He said all those things we want to hear that other politicians (except McDermott) usually skip over. I would be proud to have this man represent the USA before the entire world.

Russ and Jim both condemned the Iraq occupation and Russ mentioned his his ill-fated censure resolution, and his opposition to the pro-torture bill and the Patriot Act.

Apparently it's been decided that Maria Cantwell is "The Energy Senator".  She was hailed as the expert on alternative energy of the future. Has she learned her lesson? It may be a good idea for her to stick to that subject from now on, and avoid fantasies concerning regime change and foreign policy adventures.

Alex, my precocious 13-year-old nephew, a  political geek, showed up at this event. He was ASKED to volunteer at this event by the local Dems and got in for free. This kid is way too smart!

On his way out, Jim McDermott stopped as he passed my table, smiled, shook my hand and said quietly, "I got the check. Thanks." [Referring to the check from Citizen Artiste.]

That made my night!

And we have plenty of it to do, before and after November 7.

If perception is reality, then the world must be flat and the sun must revolve around it.

...to Ivan, he cuts the BS, gets to the point of what we're about...and to Tanya, bright face of the future, of that I have no doubt...and here's to Skyler, with his "Joe to Go"...with people like these, we'll win, I Know!
