Experience and New Faces Combine to Lead the 38th LD Into the 2007-2008 Cycle

On Saturday, December 16, the 38th LD Democrats held their bi-annual re-organization. The result was a mix of experience and new faces on the Executive Board that should provide excellent leadership over the next two years.

Leading from the Chair will be Deborah Wright, longtime PCO and activist in the City of Everett. Deborah takes the gavel from Marian Harrison who held that position at the 38th for the past four years. Harry Abbott, progressive activist - respected for his high-visibility volunteerism at both the LD and County levels, replaces Monty Futch as Secretary. Other new members include Carolyn Johnston who takes the checkbook from Connie Barndt as Treasurer and Jason Tarver who replaces Lynn Claughton at Sergeant at Arms. Rashida Harris and Kelly Wright (no relation to Deborah) retained their positions as State Committee Representatives. Curt Eidem and I exchanged titles as Vice-Chair and Male Representative to the Snohomish County Democrats Executive Committee respectively. Filling out the board, Marian Harrison remains on the board after winning a closely contested race to take the position of Female Representative to the SCDCC.

The 38th will start the year out already gearing up for local and county races in 2007 with Everett City Council races as well as an already contested race for the 2nd County Council District of which the city of Everett represents the largest constituency. Obviously the 2008 caucuses and primary will loom over everything for the next two years and I believe the 38th LD Democrats have demonstrated their commitment to success with the installation of this Executive Board.

Peace,
Chad (The Left) Shue
