WA State GA on Beef Recall from Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Company

I heard recently that this company is now out of business. After $143,000,000 recall. I guess so.

From General Administration
State of Washington

Beef Recall from Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Company

The USDA announced a recall of all Hallmark/Westland meat products and an indefinite suspension from Federal/Emergency Food Assistance and National School Lunch Programs, after it found cattle unfit for human food being processed for distribution.

General Administration has confirmed with Food Service of America and Correctional Industries that these products have not been purchased or distributed under any of the Washington State Food Contracts. We also confirmed with USDA that these products were not purchased for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) or Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) in the State of Washington.

Details about this recall and USDA actions are available at www.usda.gov/actions

I noticed that the schools are tossing the beef out.  http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20080222/NEWS03/423377688

I read the links on the state site, but I am confused about the private prison companies.  Do the separate companies contract for food or does the food come in on the state contracts?

Just tells me we need to stop outsourcing government functions and we need to Buy Local.
