SB 6893 is a disaster in the making

Via - PZ Myers
Two members of the Higher Education Committee (Paull Shin - Chair (D)and Jerome Delvin - Ranking Minority Member (R)) are sponsoring a bill that is poison for academic integrity in this state.

The key is this:

Develop a procedure in which a student may present his or her objection to a classroom assignment due to its opposition with the student's conscience.

That means a student who is a creationist could demand accommodation in a biology classroom against one of the most solid theories in science - Evolution. What next then flat Earthers? This invites a loss of integrity in the University classroom allowing any badly thought out idea on a student's part to have a say over mountains of evidence to contrary. Please call your phone or email to your state senators and tell them that SB 6893 is bad legislation. Now go read Pharyngula on the subject.

It's easy to cast this as "flat earthers"... and somehow.. what? They make an objection... and because they make an objection now their objection is forced onto the other classmates... who object... and now I object.

Because I think either legislators are smarter than U.. R else maybe U shud B th' Leg.

I just don't know. You... or them? Them... or you?

It's not easy to decide.

If our Democratic House, Senate, and Executive branch can't get fair share healthcare reform done, but can find the energy to help push a creationist backdoor into our school system.

There is already a proceedure for creationists to present their objection to evolution - its called 'home school'.

I would love to hear more about this bill.

Disecting a frog in Biology (animal rights and/or vegetarians)? What about...well, that's the only counter arguement I can come up with now :)
Oh, not really, how about objecting to Military history or recruiters. What if a Native American objects to writing a positive report about Columbus or Cortez?
