David Domke, Crispin Thurlow & Amy Goodman Oct 28th

I'm very excited about an upcoming event.

Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! will be in Mount Vernon, WA Sat Oct 28th. It's a stop on the 10 Year Anniversary Tour, with plenty of other local stops in our region. It's also a fund raiser for community radio stations KSER in Everett and KSVR in Mount Vernon. Here's KSVR's promo page.

David Domke and Crispin Thurlow will be giving their "The Power of Articulation" workshop afterwards. This is not to be missed. This is the progressive alternative to Frank Luntz. Domke and Thurlow have developed a methodology for formulating our own progressive values-based messages. Showing us how to put the ideas from Lakoff and others into action.

Thanks to Ginny Wolff for making this happen and getting the word out. Below is the blurb she put together.

I attended a David Domke and Crispin Thurlow workshop earlier this year. It was called "Articulation in Action". We learned how to "speak Americanese". That workshop was 4 hours long. We got to practice formulating our own messages. It was hard! But we could see first hand that it was possible, the effort required, and the rewards that could be attained.

Contact:      Rip Robbins at 360-416-7711 or rrobbins@skagit.edu

Radical, independent journalist Amy Goodman is coming to Skagit Valley College on Saturday, October 28.  She will speak in McIntyre Hall at 11:00am, at a benefit for community radio stations KSVR (91.7FM Mount Vernon) and KSER (90.7FM Everett).

SVC students will attend free of charge courtesy of Student Activities office.  Tickets for community members will be $20 per person. Proceeds from ticket sales will be shared by the stations.

Amy Goodman is the host and executive producer of the daily independent, award-winning news program Democracy Now!, airing on 500 stations in North America. She and her brother David co-authored the national best seller The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media that Love Them.

Reserved seating tickets are available at the box office of McIntyre Hall or on its website, www.mcintyrehall.org.  Both stations will be offering prime front row tickets as part of their membership drives in early October.  Check either station websites for details as those seats must be purchased directly from the stations.

Democracy Now!'s "War and Peace Report" provides  audiences with access to people and perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. corporate-sponsored media.  It includes independent and international journalists, ordinary people from around the world who are directly affected by U.S. foreign policy, grassroots leaders, peace activists, artists, academics and independent analysts.

Amy Goodman began her career in community radio in 1985 at Pacifica Radio's New York Station, WBAI. She produced WBAI's Evening News for 10 years. In 1996, Goodman helped launch Pacifica Radio's Democracy Now!.

Skagit Valley radio station KSVR 91.7 FM has been airing her program, Democracy Now!, since 1997.

Following Amy's appearance, will be workshops inspiring participants to action from  1 pm to 3 pm.  David Domke, Communications Professor from the University of Washington, will address the use of language in the media.  Professor Domke is much sought after by progressive groups in the NW for his fast-paced, entertaining, hands-on delivery, often laced with outrageous video clips.

I've got a small four-seater. Holler if you want to carpool. I'll leave North Seattle around 9:15am.

I'd like to socialize while I'm up in Mount Vernon. The workshop I attended last April was fantastic. Lots of good people and lots of good energy.

I'm very interested in forming a study group. So we can practice this message forging skill. I put the call out a few times. There's interest. It'd be great if we could find critical mass. (Enough people located kind of near each other.)
