Washington has land use troubles. New York City real estate developer Howie Rich noticed and he's paired up with in-state pro-sprawl developers to feed on our pain with a de facto repeal of our zoning and environmental laws through I-933. It'll cost us environmental quality, neighborliness, and, according to Washington's office of Financial Management, $7- $9 billion. Rich's Illinois organization is I-933's biggest funder, having given $360,000 to the cause. Oregon voters, who approved Howie Rich's similar (but less extreme) Measure 37 in 2004, now say 2-1 in a poll that they'd vote NO The Oregonian tells us: Don't do it, Washington!.
What do Washingtonians say? All our living governors joined together last week to warn us against I-933. Seattle Times calls I-933 an expensive hoax. All of Washington's major faith organizations and environmental organizations say no. Major civic organizations, including firefighters, farmers, and chambers of commerce warn us: NO ON I-933.
