A boycott of One

I called Verizon today and canceled my phone service with them.

I think of this as a boycott of One.

Thankfully, we have a choice here.  Qwest is readily available, priced pretty much the same as Verizon, and apparently, they don't turn over phone records to the government.

I didn't cancel my service with them as part of any organized boycott, and I'm not asking anyone else to do the same.  Just do what your conscience tells you.

But, I have a hope that so many people will be so outraged over this company's willingness to turn over phone records as part of a feebleminded poorly conceived attempt at security, that they will all make the same decision as me.

It could hit Verizon's bottomline hard... and boost Qwest for having done the proper thing by refusing to cooperate.

Businesses that sacrifice our privacy on our behalf shouldn't be doing business.

I'm voting with my dollars.

Don't forget Qwest's stock.  Value was around $6.35 per share yesterday.  Probably going up, thanks to this insanity.

Who'da THUNK it!  ;-))))

Fortunately, my local service is with Qwest, and my long distance is with OneSuite, which I think operates out of Taiwan, for long distance calls.  If anybody knows of them working in collusion with Verizon or the other telescum, please let me know.

Now all I have to do is find an internet vendor that isn't out to destroy Net Neutrality....

I actually don't remember who my service is with.  Am going to have to check.

I want to know what information the QWest guys saw that the others didn't.  I mean, did the NSA guys just walk in and say "we want your stuff", and they just said ok?  Were they afraid of being labeled not patriotic?

I find it odd that in the corporate law business, which is very much the same from corporation to corporation, that several sets of lawyers could see the same information and not come to the same conclusions, mainly, that the government needed to get a warrant FIRST.  I hope Sen. Specter gets these guys on the record.
