Bellingham first city in Washington to initiate City Council Resolution 'Bring Troops Home '

City of Bellingham is the first in Washington state to initiate City Council Resolution 'Bring The Troops Home'.  Hearing was held Sept 26, 2006. Congratulations and thank you for your courage Bellingham - our neighbor to the north!

See article in The Bellingham Herald titled
City asked to send anti-war message; parents of soldiers bring resolution to council; 150 attend meeting.
(special shout out of thanks to Marie Marchand, Executive Director of the nonprofit Whatcom Peace & Justice Center for helping military families make this happen in Bellingham)

QUICK FACTS

The Troops Home! Resolution urges Congress to end the occupation of Iraq and bring American troops home.

Some 106 other U.S. cities have passed similar troop withdrawal resolutions.

To date, no other Washington cities were listed as having passed this type of resolution.

Other cities in Washington state interested in initiating a City Council resolution to bring the troops home; see toolkit at link Cities for Progress.

The council will vote at its Oct. 9 meeting to adopt the resolution or not.

[insert] Video of the City Council meeting and Hearing on Resolution is available online at http://www.cob.org/council/packets.htm (September 25, 2006). The Hearing begins around minute 22 of the video.

I'd say this is democracy at work from the ground up. A majority of Bellingham's population want the troops home from Iraq and they're saying so through their city council (their elected representatives).

Respecting that this is a political blog, forum and portal;  respecting that I have been posting stories and diaries to Washblog for some time time now; respecting that I have been clear that I believe Iraq is the over arching political issue - why do commenters here insist on pointing to the upcoming elections as some sort of solution to Iraq?

  Can this be explained?

Has there been some implied magic bullet theory that electing democrats into office somehow brings resolution to Iraq invasion/occupation?

The argument that the alternative of electing republicans into office is a worse scenario isn't resonating any more.    Until there is some clarity from elected officials and candidates on the matter of position of the US Iraq invasion/occupation, holding out what seems like a measure of desperation that we must elect 'our candidates' and those candidates must be democrats seems to foster a never-ending political excuse for no resolve on matter of Iraq.

Today 2 more U.S troops will die while we wait for the November elections.  Countless Iraqis will die today. Yesterday 2 U.S. troops died in Iraq along with countless Iraqis.  Tomorrow 2 more U.S. troops will die in Iraq and so will countless Iraqis. Total killed in Middle East wars Iraq/Afghanistan exceeds number killed at WTC Sept 11, 2001.  Movement is underway that appears to be placing U.S. ships in strategic vicinity of Iran is suggestive of more war initiated by U.S. in Middle East.

172nd Stryker Brigade, stop-loss and extended in Iraq (Baghdad) after having served already a   12 month deployment.  Since the extension how many have died who might otherwise have been home with their families?

1st Armored gets the word it is being extended (stop lossed) AGAIN!  Many of those being extended were the same ones who were stop-lossed extended in March 2004 and served 15 month deployments.

Reserves, Natl Guard, IRR all being called up to serve in combat deployments.

How much more stretched can this supposed all volunteer military be if it is not already broken?  Where are the soldiers to come from to do the fighting in this decades long war in Middle East?

Some of you know my writings, some of you don't.  Those who do, please do not use my stories/posts to further advancing your chosen political candidates at the expense of ignoring or failing to acknowledge the point of why I post the stories I post = calling attention to Iraq invasion/occupation.  Calling attention to Congressional legislative responsibility to deal with this Administration on a matter of such serious proportion - pre-emptive war, illegal invasion/occupation, Geneva convention violations. Calling attention to the fact that real lives, real humans, not abstract theories pay the price of death and maiming every  single day.   Thank you.

this might be peeing in the wind, it might not.

As an example:

Over 6 months,
You have 400 emails in your job hunt folder,
you talk to about 100 different people,
you have over 50 interviews,
you make it to the last 2 or 3 8 or 10 times,
you say

screw the northwest and these moving backwards indecisive idiots, I am moving back to the east coast where I would have had 25 job offers outta 400 emails.

and a connection you had written off turns into a job which bumps your resume and your skills up an order of magnitude,

the day before you start packing to leave this moving backwards place.

is there a linear relationship between contacts / offers / interviews / work ...?

NO. Period.

is there a relationship between

doing NOTHING and GETTING NOTHING?

100%.

Institute for Policy Studies http://www.ips-dc.org/.   is the parent group of Cities for Progress.  Institute for Policy Studies is also affiliated with the Transnational Institute http://www.tni.org/ that is based in Europe.  They were both created and are funded by the Samuel Rubin Foundation.

The Samuel Rubin Foundation's http://www.samuelrubinfoundation.org  is a multi-million dollar foundation dedicated to the "pursuit of peace and justice and the search for an equitable reallocation of the world's resources."  i.e. communism.  Samuel Rubin was a well known communist.  They fund organizations that promote communism.

Does it bother the supporters of this resolution that the creating and funding organizations are dedicated to promoting communism.

Can we expect a communist promotions organization to promote our democratic-republic nation?
