United for Peace of Pierce County Posts Video of Saturday's Peace March

See it here.  It's a fascinating and, I think, hope-inspiring view into the diversity of the anti-occupation movement, from GI resistance to the people who appear to coming more from a peace-movement perspective. Speakers in the video linked to here refer to Port protests.  Here's some background on those:  Tacoma Stryker Protests: Important Direct Action Against the Occupation (my article) and Stryker Protest at Port of Tacoma: 4 Pieces, by Mark Jensen of United for Peace of Pierce County.

Different traditions and perspectives of the anti-occupation movement
Two of Washblog's editors, Lietta and Arthur Ruger, are members of Military Families Speak Out and have posted frequently on the Iraq occupation from their perspective on Washblog and on their own blogs, Willapa View and Dying to Preserve the Lies.  Here's a recent one from Lietta: Senator Murray missed it, Darcy Burner saw it - East Side Democratic fundraiser @ Westin in Bellevue, with a comments section revealing of differences in perspective between anti-occupation Democrats and other who call for an end to the occupation.  Washblog's Dinazina and I have also posted frequently on the occupation, more in terms of documenting the opposition.  For example: Seattle MoveOn Peace Vigil at Westlake.

Here is a piece by Dinazina, Puppet Ponderings: A Brilliant Analysis, where Dina and Lietta and others, including ParticleMan, discuss some of these classic divisions among those who organize in opposition to the Iraq occupation.

for the post. I was at the march and got some great photos, which I'll post soon.

It was the biggest antiwar demonstration I remember since the pre-war March march in '03.
I felt very good about participating.

Many young people were there, plus parents with children, as well as the usual older crowd of peace activists and some creative statements.

Except for things like cellphones and piercings, it could've been 1969...almost surrealistic. When I post the photos, you'll see what I mean.

Thank you Noemie, for gathering up the different stories and diaries at Washblog and other blogs that address the peace/activist movement actions.  There is quite a mix of people, approaches, philosophies and viewpoints among the movement, and all have value.

Looks like this past weekend in Seattle was energetic and enthusiastically attended.
