Clinton Campaign training will have a positive impact on the WA Democratic Party

This Saturday, 11-10-07, I attended a Team Hillary training. It was a very positive experience and a little less than half of the attendees had never been to a caucus or volunteered for a campaign before. Personally, I haven’t been to a caucus for 15 years. We are energetic individuals and consistent voters whose enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton is taking us to the next level.

I am a 36th LD Dem, having just moved from the 43rd, and occasionally posted here on veteran & military families issues. I did military family outreach for John Kerry from National and was a coordinated campaigner in WV. I currently serve on Hillary Clinton’s National Steering Committee for veterans, military retirees and military families.

As a grass roots organizer for a national Veterans & Military Families group (my hubby was activated with an Army Reserve unit from Seattle), I know new issues and personal experiences have motivated many citizens to embrace activist and grassroots strategies and to bring those energies to our party.

It is important for Legislative District and County Chairs, if they have determined who they will support, to make early endorsements and get involved in a campaign. Anyone can hop onto an already energized campaign, after the hard work of initial organizing has been accomplished. Democrats new to volunteering on the campaign trail need seasoned leaders to be present to model campaign best practices and mentor caucus training.

This Saturday, Jim Kainber delivered an excellent training about the entire caucus system, and I assure you, the Feb. 9 caucus was stressed as very important, both by Jim and the two Clinton staffers sent from National. There were thirteen 36th LD Dems out of almost 200 attendees who invested the day to benefit from the campaign and caucus training offered by Jim Kainber and others from the Clinton Campaign. We were encouraged to attend Thursday evening monthly meetings with our 36th friends and neighbors and get involved in the Party.

The Democratic Party in Washington State will only benefit from the investment the Clinton Campaign is making in getting a new breed of activists involved in the party through campaign training and caucus organizing. These well trained Democrats will graduate from this election with strong skill sets that will benefit our party for years to come.

I'm glad that people's excitement over the Clinton candidacy is bringing them into political engagement.  We need more of this!  This is a really well-written post.  As usual, Julie.  It's good to see you posting here.  And I hope you spend more time on Washblog again.

A quick note here on front paging of stories on the presidential races.

A while back the editors at Washblog decided that, as we are a state-focused blog, we would not post front-page stories advocating for one or more presidential candidates over the others.

There's too much of critical importance on state issues going on to let those discussions get lost in posts and discussion on the national "horse race".  There are plenty of blogs that focus on national issues.  Our scope is state-wide.  And, certainly, a post on one presidential candidate is bound to attract other posts -- and quite a bit of passion.

For example, I feel passionately in opposition to the idea of a Clinton nomination.  I believe our candidate is being selected for us again by those  who have power and money to do it. For me, it's like Dean all over again.  But worse, as we're deeper in the blood now.  As I see it Clinton is the least objectionable Democrat to the Republicans and corporatists -- to the status quo.  She's the Democratic candidate who least represents my values.  I think she is the Democratic candidate least likely to win against whomever wins the Republican nomination.

Clinton wins on the polls  that ask voters of all political persuasions: who would you never vote for?

A couple of weeks ago, a front page post on the tactics of the Clinton campaign in Washington appeared here on Washblog and I thought this didn't violate our no-frontpage-presidential-diaries policy, as it wasn't directly on the merits of the candidate, but on the state campaign tactics.  But, that one having been posted, I guess it's not really fair, without the consent of the author, to put this one in the diary section.

But I have changed the box that pops up when people post a diary or story -- so that it now asks that presidential posts go to the diary section -- on the side of the page.  There may be some exceptions made after discussion by the editorial board.
