Facing up to Stop Loss; it can't hold - it isn't holding. Put this topic into Presidential Debates

He said good bye to his family this weekend and goes back to Iraq for another extended (Stop Loss) deployment of 15 months (his second 15 month deployment).  Although it is rumored to the families it will likely be 18 months. Yeah, that's right, he gets to Iraq and another stop loss is added to his existing stop loss...

Enough -   I can't watch my daughter's family implode.  Strong as they are being, mother and 3 children left behind when he deploys again, using just our family experience as a microcosm illustration of what is happening to military families across the board; how can Congress and America expect them to buck up and bear it all again and again and again ....

If this sounds like a scream of anquish, it is...and if it doesn't sound like an anguished scream, it should.  Words fail.

I learned of the new StopLoss movie at a new forum website I was invited to join.  It has a format like the one used at Daily Kos, a format mimicked here at Washblog.  At the new VetVoice, you can read and comment on stories from other actual troops and military families.  VetVoice, The Voice of America's 21st Century Patriots, a project of VoteVets.org.  And a shout out of thanks to Brandon Friedman for making VetVoice forum happen.  Some of you may recognize him from his diary stories at Daily Kos under his username  The Angry Rakkasan. He recently began using his real name. He authored book newly published book, The War I Always Wanted, and is currently Vice Chairman of VoteVets.org.

So when the right wing talkers say if you don't want to go to Iraq, you should get out of the service, I guess they do not know what they are talking about.  Surprise!

betrayal of those who have already given so much -- the soldiers put in hostilities based on lies and their families.  And betrayal of honor and trust. It's unforgiveable.

I do appreciate that it is so difficult to know what to say at such a time, and please know that your words do make a difference.  Thank you for taking the time to find something to say.  The care and concern shows through.

Daddy's little girl dissolves into tears knowing it is real Daddy is leaving this weekend.

What is a deployment bear?
post from their mother, on the night before their father leaves for his second deployment to Iraq:

Last night we went to the xxxx Mall and let the kids make a build a deployment bear. They dressed them in Army outfits. Hubby went to the back room at the store and recorded his voice so they could put his recording in each of the kids bears. After he was finished making the recordings she put each of them into the kids bears arms, stuffed them and then the kids grabbed hearts to put into their bears.

But it was very very neat because my husband also took two hearts and together the kids and my hubby
rubbed the hearts to warm them up,
patted them to get the hearts beating,
touched their forehead to make the bears smart,
touched their noses so the bears would know them,
touched their knees so the bears would need them,
touched their muscles so their bears would be strong,
and touched their hearts so their bears would love them,
then each of them kissed their hearts and put them into the bears.

It was so adorable because there was my hubby standing with the kids saying and doing everything the girl said to do with the hearts. Now the kids have hearts in their bears right besides daddy's heart.

Daddy told him he is the man of the house while Daddy is gone. Is his son's expression wondering how he will live up to being the man of the house.

Two little ones trying so hard to be brave for Daddy, and now it is real for them with these deployment bears that he is leaving for Iraq.

gettign into pushing and shoving matches over who gets to the pile of chinese made junk they don't need first ...

ever since that lying fucking fascist RayGun got elected, due to Dem electoral incompetence,

(some of the same jackasses are STILL in d.c., getting paid really well, losing to the fascists)

I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who'll watch the super bowl or waddle their fat lazy drooling asses down to the mall to go into debt for crap they don't need

but

when it comes to anything important that this government is doing - like using our money stupidly,

or using the time of our citizens questionably,

...

...

where are the beanie babies!

ugh.

best wishes.
