Good news!
House Bill 1186, "Modifying Provisions on Judicial Campaigns", which provides for public financing of state supreme court and and court of appeals races, was passed out of the Appropriations committee and is now on its way to the Rules committee.
The word is there is strong support for the bill from the Governor, who after all did request this legislation.
Senate Bill 5278, which will allow for public financing of local elections, is scheduled to be debated on the Senate floor early in the 10 a.m. session on Monday, and will probably be telecast on TVW. This bill has been amended to apply only to cities. So many public financing supporters prefer the House version, HB 1551, which is still in House Rules.
