We live in fun times....
Hey so WAMU was going under and so I found another bank. BECU seemed o.k. (and
they don't show up on our PHYDAR) but they didn't do check return. But they
said I could, you know, view my checks online. Ah, o.k. (they seemed pretty
together, although that has been tested in the last few days... really the
first time it has been tested).
So I went to their web site, ya know? And I had to fill out all of this
personal shit. And then I got another screen full of happy things... but
nothing useful... and in the middle was a 4 line X 30 col (or so) scrollie
and below that an "I accept" type button... and the scrollie scrolls for
miles!
To cut to the chase, it's basically a rewrite of the banking T&Cs, with
everything on-line, and three days or something to view "important
notifications" on the web site... because they're just going to tell me about
them by email... without admitting that email is unreliable. At the same time
their T&Cs for the web site (no language to determine which has precedence)
flat out says man our web site is a pile of shit. What are you doin' here?
You can't believe this, in fact it is probably inaccurate.
Now, that is a Service Level Agreement I can Bank On!
Just one installment in an on-going series of essays on asymmetric trust
relationships....
