John & Elizabeth Edwards launch Iraq/Recession Campaign today

I still believe that getting out of Iraq is the number one priority for this country. With John and Elizabeth Edwards lending their valued support to this campaign, it may well underscore Iraq as a costly economic issue that has become critically important to Americans. I am hopeful it will lend itself to creating the sense of urgency among millions of Americans to demand a strategy to bring U.S. troops home.

SOURCE Iraq Campaign 2008

I phoned Moira Mack of the Iraq Campaign 2008 at the number shown in press release.  I talked to a person there explaining that I wanted to confirm the information, and talk to Moira.

Explaining a bit about my own background as a military family who has been speaking out, and my wish to post this information to Washblog as contributing editor, therefore, my wish to confirm it first. He took my info and said would pass it along to her, and he did say they had just concluded a phone call with John Edwards.

Given that the press conference is at 11 AM EST, it makes sense that there would be a lot of busy going on with the campaign. I wouldn't expect Moira to return my call until some of the activity settles down.

Since I am an Edwards supporter, I am finding it very difficult to get excited about Hillary or Barak.  This Edwards coalition gives me hope and a vehicle to actively participate in the months leading to the general election.

I was hoping Edwards would not endorse either candidate but would find some vehicle to continue his platform goals. It looks like that is what he has done.

Elizabeth Edwards, in traditional fashion, saved many of her choice words for media. Lamenting that reporters "certainly don't cover the connection between the issues," she said the American people see there is "undoubtedly a connection between oil, the costs of transportation in this country, and this war."

The effort, tentatively called Iraq Campaign 2008, intends to focus heavily on the domestic costs of a protracted Iraq war. "We have a limited amount of money and we're spending much too much of our available resources on this war," Elizabeth Edwards said.

(excerpt from article at Huffington Post)

Is Elizabeth right? Do you think the American people have connected the dots, making the connection between oil, costs of transportation in this country and the fact of this war?

At last weekend's DFA training in Kent, Jim Dean (chair of Democracy for America) said that DFA too will work on this campaign to advertise the costs of the war. See my diary post for more about the training.
