Biden is the Choice ... open thread

Let's hear it for or against.

I don't claim to know the absolutes as to what's best for the country so it ain't my place to say Biden is the perfect choice  -  or the wrong choice.

I do know that it was Obama's call and if that's who he wants and he's the guy we trust then what the hell?

Someone is quoted as saying Biden is a pit-bull with partisan politics. That means we may see less sissy responses to Republican distract and stampede tactics. And that would be good for the country.

What's your take?

As a demonstratede switch-hitter, Johnny Guns could go for lots of different fences.

He could secure the Utah vote and pick mittens.

Course that'd cost him the Left Butt , oops ... I meaa, Left Behind vote. So maybe he should go pick Huckleberries.

But then again the scaredy cat votes might more likely tip the scales so a good war monger or liar might work better.

That can be a good thing or a not so good thing.

I have always intuitively 'liked' the guy because:
a: He kicked ass during the Clarence Thomas hearings, and
b: He's a mid-Atlantic region person with that working class delmarva penninsula accent which has some resonance for me cuz I lived in that area

Realize that is emotional and has nothing to do with his actual political positions......

The job of VP is what the Prez allows - or what the Veep gets away with.  How will he help Obama once they are sworn in?

Biden voted for the Bankruptcy Act.

He voted for the AUMF, giving up Congress's Constitutional power to declare war.  He has voted for funds for war.

He plagiarized a paper in law school.  He lifted a speech almost word for word from a British labor leader in a campaign for the presidency.

http://www.americanthink..._plagiarism_problem.html

sorry but I think this just shows that D's and R's are indeed arms of the oligarchy.

Zinn was right:

"I'm not taking some ultra-left position that elections are totally insignificant, and that we should refuse to vote to preserve our moral purity. Yes, there are candidates who are somewhat better than others, and at certain times of national crisis (the Thirties, for instance, or right now) where even a slight difference between the two parties may be a matter of life and death.

"I'm talking about a sense of proportion that gets lost in the election madness. Would I support one candidate against another? Yes, for two minutes-the amount of time it takes to pull the lever down in the voting booth.

"But before and after those two minutes, our time, our energy, should be spent in educating, agitating, organizing our fellow citizens in the workplace, in the neighborhood, in the schools. Our objective should be to build, painstakingly, patiently but energetically, a movement that, when it reaches a certain critical mass, would shake whoever is in the White House, in Congress, into changing national policy on matters of war and social justice."

So maybe vote for Obama; but we need a nation-wide, non-partisan movement to restore the Constitution and demand peace and justice...

We can always agree to disagree. Though as Biden stated today,"We cannot afford more of the same."
This is America's time, the people's time. Not of politicians, pundits or parties. With this team we may have a shot at progressing forward, lifting up,the backbone of this nation. The People

The system is poisoned by money flowing from the powerful who manipulate minds and elections with their vast wealth and poisonous campaigns.

Biden is probably the best we can do. He's where we're at as a nation.  Like all politicians who get to the national level he's bought and sold and blinkered by those who paid for his campaigns.  But I doubt he's entirely blind or primarily loyal to the paymasters.  There's hope with Obama/Biden because it's not up to them to make democracy work -- it's up to "the people".  Obama/Biden in office will be much less of a barrier to that.  There will be hope for progress and healing where I feel the prognosis is extremely dark with a McCain presidency.  And we can probably expect good things for the economy - investments in infrastructure, people, new industries and proactively addressing climate change.

heroes unmercifully - as if the slightest flaw will bring down the entire candidacy. Reference posts that express the idea that one vote or one attitude or one act will be sufficient to bring failure to the Democratic hopes this fall.

If we compare the one or two cited Biden miscues, not to mention the one or two media-driven Obama faults that are elevated way beyond significance, we seem to live in fear and dread that our candidates' lack of perfection will result in the election of Republican candidates whose resumes are much more replete with warts, stupidities and flaws attributable to having to appeal to a narrow support base that is not representative of the majority view.

It's not unlike feeling that our well-written term paper is terminally flawed because we mispelled a word in the title.

As far as polls on the "neck and Neck" status of this race, they are only polls and it means little whose poll it is.

If you are going to worship in the poll chapel, then take your own beads, I mean, poll with you. My personal polling in an environment more conservative than liberal reveals this result every time I take it:

Obama 90-100 %
McCain 0%
Undecided 0-10%

I can name on one hand the total number of people I've met in my travels who declare themselves McCain supporters.

I'm so glad you have an open thread. As you can see I'm mostly a lurker. But I just saw a video at CNN where Deborah Feldman of KING5 uses the term "Democrat Party"

http://tinyurl.com/5syuom

I have taken the CNN link to tinyurl since the CNN link was so long.

I have written KING5 about it and hope everyone that reads this will write them too.
