The Seattle Times endorsement of Dave Reichert is astonishing. They list the few times that he has broken with Republican leadership and then treat that as if it were common practice. At the Bellevue debate, Reichert even declared that leadership tells him how to vote on certain issues. Is this the voice of independence and reason that they applaud in their endorsement?

A man who does not value the environment and still fails to recognize the existence of global warming has no place representing the 8th Congressional District.

Is it meaningless to them that the League of Conservation Voters gives Reichert the lowest rating of any member of Congress in Western Washington?

In their endorsement, they failed to mention both the War on Terror and his stance on Iraq. Are these irrelevant issues? Or are they ashamed that Reichert justified the Iraq War by declaring in the Bellevue debate that "We were attacked." Even the Republicans in the White House gave up trying to link 9/11 to Iraq.

I refuse to vote for a man whose Iraq policy is lagging behind even the White House. I've given up on Dave Reichert, and I think it's time they did, as well.
