Voters in the 47th district got a mailing over the weekend from the state GOP disguised as a letter from the state Attorney General's office.
The letter from Attorney General Rob McKenna had an Olympia return address and an official-looking logo. It gives the impression of an important communication from the state government.
Instead it is a personal attack on Claudia Kaufmann, paid for by the state GOP, which compares her campaign ads to unscrupulous businesses that violate consumer protection laws.
I've seen Claudia Kaufmann's campaign ads and mailings and find nothing that merits comment that they would be illegal if they were not political speech. Such a comment is a legal opinon and inappropriate for a state attorney general to make, especially in a letter that uses a misleading envelope and return address.
If McKenna wants consumer protection in political ads, how about protecting consumers from political mailings disguised as official state business?
