Douglas County Commissioner Dane Keane has been quick to say that his problems are in the past.
He has not had a drink in five years and his bad knee is a lot better. He is also running on the pretense of not playing political favors, and making decisions according to the law not personal feelings.
Keane's campaign contributors see Candidate Search http://www.pdc.wa.gov/QuerySystem/candidates.aspx)
and his actions as commissioner bring his statements into question. The majority of his campaign contributions come from The Realtors Association, Selland Construction, and Harold Schroeder. Also Town Toyota, Witte's and Anderson's Orchards all of which are involved in development. 2008 Witte's wanted to develop some of their orchards. Keane was the only commissioner that voted for the controversial and illegal rezone that the Witte's had applied for. Even after neighbors hired attorneys and proved the illegality of this rezone. 2007 Calvin White a local developer exceeded the allowed amount of 20-acre exempt lots in his development at McNeil Canyon. Buyers and surrounding property owners complained to the county about the illegal lots and the lack of roads. Keane and the other commissioners had the road and twenty-acre exempt requirements revised to accommodate White after he violated them. 2004 Keane gave Dave Bremmer another developer, permission to burn even though it violated DOE clean air laws. "Dave and I get along real well. We've worked on a couple of deals together," "This ain't the good old boys." Keane was quoted as saying. 2003 Keane along with the other two commissioners held an illegal closed-door meeting to change wetland laws to accommodate developer Jack Corning after he had violated the existing laws. 2002 Douglas County's top parks official has resigned accusing Commissioner Dane Keane with meddling in his job. Ange Taylor, said he "couldn't fight the good old boys" and that Keane got involved when he shouldn't have. "It was obvious Dane couldn't stay out of it," My issue is a commissioner hired his best friend, he calls him his brother, in a position he's not qualified for. A year ago, Gordon Graham, vice chairman of an advisory park board, said Evenhus's hiring was dictated by county commissioners and circumvented normal hiring procedures. He said it was disturbing because it didn't ensure the most qualified person was hired. Twelve years of scandal and cronyism is enough. .
