This is for the metaphor

I've been driving a lot between Pullman and Lewiston/Clarkston lately. I've passed this house many times. The Cathy sign is recent, less than a week.

For all I know, the owner of this house lives just down the road here.

But as I travel and talk with people in the 5th CD, the abandoned and broken windows of the first picture comes to mind more that the later. I suppose it's unfair to blame Cathy for all this, after all she's just a first term Congresscritter. There may be some issues in her record in the State Legislature for 10 years for the 7th LD. I didn't search hard for decade old links.
But, in reality she's nothing more than another rubberstamp, vote as you're told Republican Representative following in the footsteps of now lobbyist Nethercutt , at home in Virginia and the best candidate the Democrats have had since Ellen Crasswell ran for Governor.

Peter Goldmark knows a lot more about the needs of the 5th Congressional District.

Mr. Goldmark came from the mold of some of the best of Washington, someone who actually can relate to the issues in eastern WA and has the guff to tell it like it is. Peter Goldmark and Richard Wright are two great candiates. Not a knock on previous dems, but finally someone we can really put some energy into.

What a breath of fresh air he is compared to the typical repugs like McMorris, Hastings, Reichert. The choice couldn't be more stark - do you want a rubber stamp Bushite, or a person who listens to the constituents, holy shit! Give this man your support however you can.

That's just a great picture. Thanks for posting it.

I've worked very hard to understand the disconnect. How people can be voting against their own self-interest. That whole "What's The Matter With Kansas" phenome.

My step-father is a real basket case. A true Wile E. Coyote. He'd say shit like "Yea, you can't prove Hussein didn't have ties with al Qaeda". Early on in the Bush Regime, I "practiced" on my step-father. I wanted to see how the ditto heads argued and bullied. Because I just didn't believe that people can be that stupid. I learned that most of what was written about that mindset is perfectly true.

Fortunately for us, the tide is turning. The rural areas are becoming populists. (Here's the wikipedia entry on populism.) The pain threshold was finally reached and most figured out they're being screwed. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party and the progressives are not out in front of this. The real danger of every populist movement is that it can turn right wing. I'm talking about nativistic, anti-immigration, very conservative, etc.
