Drinking Liberally State-of-the-Union bonding at Montlake Ale House

A group of Seattle "Drinking Liberally" regulars met to bond and commiserate during the State of the Union address, fortified by Montlake Ale House's specialties, as the Decider turned many stomachs, shoveling more of the same old BS.

A few updated gems of insincerity were added, and Senator Jim Webb delivered a much-appreciated smackdown.

Pictures below:

Our host Nicholas, who organized the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally some time ago, offered a pitcher of beer to  the winner of a SOTU bingo game, featuring hackneyed phrases we expect to hear from from W. A drinking game circulated with another list of archtypal GW platitudes.

Above: Darryl Holman of Hominid Views on the left. On the right, Andrew Villenueve  (wearing his glo-in-the-dark Yearly Kos t-shirt) from Northwest Progressive Institute, which is hosting the progressive NW bloggers' convention in Olympia Feb 9-10. Anyone going? Because I'd like to offer myself as a most charming ride companion.

Above, DL-ers watch intently, blog, scribble. By the way, Lynn Allen of Evergreen Politics, in background, kindly offered me a ride to the Crabfeast in Lacey 1-22). We burst into many spontaneous partisan jeers and derision at the sound of monumenatal BS from GW and the sight of Cheney, Lieberman, Boehner, and other revolting right-wingers--especially Condi Rice, whose face appeared on the screen radiating PURE EVIL--sorry my camera couldn't capture it.

Kennedy's face looked tragic, no other word I can think of, almost ill. Biden appeared to be dozing off, while Hillary directed a wicked-queen glare in W's direction.

I swear, every time W mentioned the word OIL, Cheney broke into a friggin' SMIRK that he could not surpress--evidence above!--while Nancy Pelosi (in lime green, a bold fashion choice) chewed her lip anxiously, as if barely managing to contain her urge to point out his lies.

The biggest jeers were heard when W claimed he had a plan to cut the staggering deficit in half in the next four years (after he created it). Let me make a guess: this plan invoves drastically cutting social programs--for our own good--while avoiding any tax increase on the rich, and increasing military budget to astromonical proportions.

Senator Jim Webb's rebuttal viewed above.

We break out into enthused applause and cheers at Webb's masterful 8-minute smackdown of the Bush administration.

I spied Patty Murray among the fawning throngs in the receiving line, as GW smarmily accepted congratulations before exiting. I'm happy to report, it looked to me like she did not shake his hand and didn't even look at him. Way to go, Patty!

Left: Me and dear husband.

among friends in a well lighted alehouse in Seattle.  Sometimes I wish we didn't live so far away at the other end of the state, cause we could join you all from time to time.  Thanks for the photos and commentary.

I attended last year's SOTU edition of DL, but because it was so hard to hear the speech above the comments of the viewers I decided to watch at home this time.

That and I wasn't feeling all that great.

Looks like there was a nice crowd though.
