Another Repub "I am not gay" sex scandal...

[cross-posted on Daily Kos, couldn't resist, please recommend]

Washington State may have its own Larry Craig... but it seems he went far beyond toe-tapping with his not-gay behavior. The Republican legislator initially denied being gay and having sex with a enterprising male hustler in Spokane, but now he's getting fuzzy on the details.

KOMO radio is reporting:

A Republican state legislator from southwest Washington had sex with a man he met at an erotic video store and then told police he had been targeted in an extortion attempt, according to police documents released Tuesday.

Continued below:

State Rep. Richard Curtis, R-La Center, who on Monday declared, "I have not had sex with a guy," told police he was the victim in an extortion attempt by Cody Castagna at the posh Davenport Tower hotel on Oct. 26, search warrant documents said.

Castagna, 26, of nearby Medical Lake, told police that Curtis, 48, agreed to pay him $1,000 for sex, then reneged on the promise. Police reports also said witnesses told them Curtis dressed in women's lingerie at the erotic store, and records showed Curtis purchased two gay pornographic films from the hotel to watch with Castagna...

So many questions:

Male hustlers now charge $1000 for a brief encounter? Seems awfully steep. Or is that the rate only for married Republican legislators who vote against same-sex partnerships equal rights bills?

Police interviewed several witnesses at the Hollywood Erotic Boutique, and according to the report, Curtis walked into a bathroom at the store early on the morning of Oct. 26 and a few minutes later left the bathroom wearing long red women's stockings and a black sequined lingerie top. A witness told police that shortly after that he saw a man with a cane performing a sexual act on Curtis in an upstairs room.

The mind reels. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I have an outfit like it...

Poor Rep. Curtis (and his family) - one can only imagine the jokes about canes and "long red stockings" he'll have to endure....

Curtis is not a church official, so he can't even claim he went to the hotel room to "minister" to Castagna.

I see a challenger in his future.

Poll

If you were a straight Repub legislator
would you patronize an "erotic boutique" in Spokane?
would you let yourself be observed by employees in women's lingerie?
Would you promise a gay hustler $1000?
How would you manage such a complicated "not gay" life?

Seems to me that the Republican culture is about denial of nature.  As if the environment can be altered however we want without consequence, climate change isn't real, diversity in people can be excluded and denied, religious ideology and superstition are elevated over physical reality and the evidence of the senses, people don't need health care, poverty doesn't cause crime, international violence and domination doesn't put us on the brink of annihilation, sexuality can be ignored and denied without consequence, etc.

It's a fearful and prideful way and, as a matter of sheer survival for all of us, a bit more humility and respect for nature is in order here.

Curtis voted "nay" on this year's domestic partnerships bill.

We are "The center house for regrooving including social training". "CHRIST"
Our mission: To seek out folks who lost their way and were molded by evil GOP hacks into republican stooges and reprogram their political life and identity so they can live a more natural life regardless of their sexual orientation.

Funny...sort of. I posted the following over on PastmanBlog:

Yes, this is a sad story on many levels. This is not, as we know, an isolated case of a gay, republican, anti gay rights, elected official.
People are born with a sexual orientation but research has yet to show a gene which identifies party affiliation. So it begs the question, why on earth would a nonheterosexual run as or even be a member of the republican party.
History in our state shows that ones orientation has no relationship to how effective they can be as a legislator so long as they are a democrat. Just look at the leadership provided by nonhetero democratic legislators.
The republican party though will destroy any member outed and it seems nonhetero members feel great presser to vote and lead legislative fights against their own kind. It makes one question how many times is the risk of exposure used to gain votes.
When you consider that party affiliation is a learned trait and ones orientation is not, perhaps the conservative movement should rethink the focus of its "retraining programs"
"Hello, my name is Fred and I was a republican..."
It's only 12 steps to the promised land.

I so don't care about the sex lives of 1 or more consenting adults. If it doesn't directly involve me, I don't want to know anything.

Similarly, to stay sane, I have to actively forget that my parents ever had sex. Much less remain active. Eeeww! Again, I don't want to know anything.

That said...

The hypocracy boggles my mind. The denial, self-hate, and lust for power must eat their souls. I guess I pity these closeted gay Republicans.
