Will McKay bring down Rossi?

One important thing that kept Rossi going three years ago was that despite being encouraged to run for governor by George W. Bush, he was never really that attached to Bush.

Now with the latest Bush scandal being connected directly to the 2004 gubernatorial election, can Rossi shake the McKay firing, or is he way to close? Shoephone (who has been doing one hell of a job covering this if anyone noticed) points out the connection between a Rossi adviser and the politics surrounding McKay. Rossi may not have been personally involved in getting McKay fired, but the situation is starting to surround him to the point that he at least has some explaining to do.

Dave at Homestead Blog points out well how the froth our Washington State Republicans got themselves into over Rossi may have come back to bite them.

Underneath that rosy "such a nice man" salesman exterior is a politician of an ilk that is rare at the state level. It has long been known that Dino is a vindictive sort who goes to great lengths behind the scenes to harm his opponents. His venom knows no party boundaries. Consider the fact that in his entire carrier he has never been endorsed by a primary challenger and he has had at least six. Most have been driven from the party.

Fast forward to the 04 election contest and remember that in those areas of the state where the GOP held US House seats, Rossi out polled the GOP incumbents. Just think about the clout Rossi had with Doc Hastings in order that he would do his bidding for him when it was felt that McKay "needed" a nudge. Who recorded the most aired radio ad in Doc's campaign this last fall? Answer: Dino. And, it is false to suggest that Rossi was not very close to Karl Rove, Dick and GW, national money flooded his campaign. Still, those ties were downplayed.

As you the reader think about this issue and try to grasp why "such a nice man" would seek a federal investigation and a grand jury in connection with the allegation of election fraud even after these allegations were kicked to the curb in court, you need to understand the political value to Rossi in 08. It is the very fact that now has so many in an uproar about the McKay firing that made getting the US Attorney to take up the case so important. If the US Attorney took up the case then it would be accepted by a majority of voters that Rossi lost as a result of election fraud in great degree due to the integrity of John McKay.

I've got to give credit where credit is due. It was your post, from January 16,

/story/2007/1/16/234959/691

that got us all into the game investigating this thing. I just took the ball and ran with it.

Monica Goodling, Gonzales' senior counsel and White House liaison, was subpoenaed by the Senate Judiciary Committee along with several of Gonzales' other top aides.  She is pleading the 5th amendment against self-incrimination.  Doesn't this usually mean you know something that could incriminate you?

This paragraph says a lot:

At issue is Gonzales' March 13 denial that he participated in discussions or saw any documents about the firings, despite documents that show he attended a Nov. 27 meeting with senior aides on the topic, where he approved a detailed plan to carry out the dismissals.

I find it interesting that Mr. Postman focuses on the "glee" that liberals feel over this.  As if there is something to be ashamed of here for those who are happy to see even a little piece of the truth emerge.  We are in situation where the executive branch has taken on considerable new powers and used them repeatedly to lie to the American public about war, climate change, and almost everything else -- to give our treasures to war profiteers (like Halliburton, which then moves shop to the Middle East) to strip away civil rights in this country, leading us toward economic, environmental, and moral ruin.  All the while, Congress sits by and lets its power, the power of representative democracy, be stripped away.  Why not be gleeful when events like this may bring help crack open the facade of lies and bring out some truth?
