Mark Sidran for King County prosecuting attorney?

I have no evidence that anyone is suggesting this, other than the gray matter between my ears telling me it would be a good idea. Mark lost to Debra Senn in the primary for attorney general a couple of years ago (Senn ended up losing herself). He was the elected city attorney in Seattle for awhile (for which he earned himself, in my opinion, a somewhat undeserved reputation). He's now the chair of the state Utility Commission, the state watchdog for energy consumers.

He's got the resume, he's got the experience, so anything saying this wouldn't be a good idea?

He was responsible for more bad law in Seattle than the Mayor or the Council.  While he'd be better than most Republicans, I'd much rather take almost any other Dem than Mark "I hate the homeless" Sidran.

Here are the election results from 2004, Sidran beat Senn in King County.

The Stranger: Mark Sidran's Seattle (a lot of what Willis was talking about above).

He was truly an awful city attny who used his office to lobby the council for awful legislation he favored.  Normally, the city attny is just the city's top lawyer, but Sidran went beyond those bounds.  It's not illegal, it just hadn't been done.

However, Sidran was an excellent candidate for attny general and would have stood a much better chance versus Rob McKenna than Senn.  In an amazing turnabout, The Stranger endorsed Mark Sidran over Senn:

The truth is, Sidran was the only Democrat who stood a chance of beating evil Republican charmer Rob McKenna. But Democratic voters statewide--most of whom don't have the luxury of reading The Stranger's endorsements--favored Deborah Senn, Sidran's challenger in the primary, easily the most unelectable woman in state politics. (Although Gregoire is a close second.) While Sidran actually walloped Senn in The Stranger's turf, King County, getting 55 percent of the vote, Senn--a lefty drip of a politician--won 50.6 percent statewide.

In our Sidran endorsement, we cautioned: "We believe that Senn [will] be blown out of the water in the general election by Rob McKenna." We were right. Senn only got 43 percent in the general election. It's regretful that The Stranger isn't distributed statewide. If it were, we might not be facing four years under a Republican attorney general.

But it looks like Bob Ferguson wants the gig.  Anyway...
