Old equipment will slow King County vote tally, King County Director of Elections Sherril Huff repeated the claim that Diebold's new ballot tabulators are required to have quicker election results.
This statement is false. The mail ballots are not available on election day to be counted, as I've documented.
We don't need more proprietary, untested, uncertified gear from bad actors. What we need is transparent, verifiable open source voting solutions. I believe King County can lead they way.

I am deeply gratified that King County Elections appears to have done a fantastic job for the November 2008 general election.
Things could have been so very different. Imagine if King County Elections had swapped gear right before the most important election of our generation. By convincing the County Council to delay, our watchdog group, Washington Citizens for Fair Elections, prevented an election meltdown.
The next major test is the 2012 general election. We have three years to choose and deploy a new system for election administration.
We must have transparent, verifiable equipment from trusted sources. That solution is open source voting systems. Not proprietary gear championed by special interests and the power elite.
This is a rare opportunity for King County. We can make this happen. We can lead the United States in adopting open source solutions. One way or another, I pledge to make that happen.
