Where is Dwight?

According to folks attending tonight's Thurston County Democrats "Candidate Forum" between Dwight Pelz and Mark Hintz for State Dems Chair, the incumbent (Pelz) is listed a a no-show. I am not certain what the absence is attributed to but I have been told that former chair, Paul Berendt is standing in for Dwight.

Oddly enough while I was browsing my list of blogs earlier today, I ran across this possibly related item at HorsesAss:
Drinking with Dwight
by Goldy, 01/05/2009, 2:14 PM

The Newport Hills chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight, 7-10PM, at the Mustard Seed Grill and Pub, 5608 119th Ave SE, in Bellevue, and I'm told that Washington State Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz will be stopping by.
I'd love to hear from anybody at the Newport Hills DL.

more below..

Obviously a couple of questions come to mind. I mean surely it wouldn't be an intentional snub on Pelz's part to stiff not only Hintz but the Thurston County Dems who would like to hear an open debate on the merits of each of the candidates...could it?

And then there is the question of why Paul Berendt would be standing in for Dwight? As far as I knew up to this point, Paul was not committing to either candidate. One would think that in order to be an effective surrogate one would need to believe in the merits of the candidate for which you would be advocating.

The forum should be ending right about now so I hope to be getting some answers soon. Stay tuned...

"Good ol' Boys" network had tatered some. It's unfortunate that Dwight is getting such a free ride back to his 6 figure job.
The Governor's race shouldn't have even threatened to be close. We lost seats in the Legislaturefer cat's sake. Dwight irritated many party stalwarts and just barely gave lip service to Chaairman Dean's 50 state strategy while wasting the accompaning DNC money.
I heard that our delegation to the National Convention came close to "impeaching" him as Delegation Leader.
Seems I'm wrong. Or maybe it's just that Paul was in the neighborhood :) , He does live in Olympia after all.

during the election campaign, I had a small part to play as the nominated Obama delegate to represent my precinct at our county convention, where then another round of nominating and voting for Obama delegates to send to state convention would happen.  I was happy that three other military families received the votes to go on to represent as Obama delegates at the state convention.

How does this relate to Dwight Pelz? After the county convention, I began receiving emails from Dwight Pelz that were intended for a completely different person, intended for someone who was one of the elected Obama delegates at the state level.  Each time I responded to the Dwight Pelz email identifying that I was not the person for which this email was intended, and that there seemed to be a mix up in the information. I identified who I was by name, showing a difference in my name and the name of the intended on the email, what my part had been, that I was not the person for whom this email was intended. That perhaps Dwight would like to get this email sent to the right person - an Obama delegate for whom it was intended.

I continued to get emails from Dwight Pelz, and each time I responded pointing out the error.  One time I even got a reply from Dwight that they would correct the mistake.  Yet the emails continued to come to me and not to the intended state-level Obama delegate.  I recall thinking at the time that if this small oversight which was repeated throughout the entire campaign was a reflection of the level of investment from the state party and the state party chair, well.........

Mind you, these weren't just promo emails, but meant for the Obama delegates, and some Obama delegate in WA state may not have been getting his/her emails because they were coming to me instead.   I'm guessing that the person who wasn't getting the emails which were being sent to me instead was hopefully getting information from somewhere else within the Obama networking campaign.

This was also posted as a comment to Luis' post above.

I'm chapter leader for the Newport Hills Drinking Liberally Chapter. Several times during the campaign season I ran into Dwight Pelz at some event or another, and asked if he would attend one of my monthly Drinking Liberally events. He said he would. Finally, last October, we settled on a date - January 5th.

Dwight was the event. He gave a 15-20 minute presentation about the workings of the Washington State party apparatus, the value of political parties, and the relationship between the State Democratic party and the Obama organization.

He then answered a whole bunch of questions for a very long period of time.

Who was there? Rank and file Democrats: At least a half dozen PCO's, a DNC committee person, the 41st LD Chair and several board members, a city council member, a former city council member, a state representative, and a bunch of local progressives.

Drinking Liberally in Newport Hills is an organization that exists for the purpose of getting people involved in progressive grass roots politics at the local level.

I applaud Dwight Pelz for being accessible to rank and file Democrats and for honoring a commitment he made months in advance.

I'm sorry our event conflicted with the debate, but I think Dwight did the right thing by making his best effort to accommodate both events.
