And we were annoyed and amused when older Bay Center ladies said the same thing

Bay Center Road runs southward along the coastline less than two miles before veering east to US Hwy 101.

Prior to the election along that road which has the most affluent houses on this little peninsula Lietta counted ten signs proclaiming the Republican Party in general and supporting Dino Rossi in particular.

She also encountered out there 2 or 2 middle-aged or elderly ladies who around the time of the inauguration talked about what guns they were going to buy before Obama started taking away guns.

A thank you to John Aravosis at Americablog for pointing out the reality behind the killing of 3 policeman in Pittsburg.

AP:

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and "lying in wait" opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn't clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns....

Poplawski had feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon," said Edward Perkovic, his best friend....

Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he "wasn't violently against Obama."

Fox News

A witness told FOX News that Poplawski was recently discharged from the military.

The witness said he did not make it through boot camp.

The shooter of liberal Christians in a church in  Tennessee last year got his talking points from Squawk Hannity.

The tearful self-serving snake oil dance of Glen Beck touches that same angry irrational hatred posturing as patriotism.

And Aravosis is right on the money about the McCain/Palin anti-America rhetoric (that's what their attacks on Obama were in reality) and how dangerous that was.

I define evil as - among other things - persons whose words or deeds lead to real social harm but who themselves proclaim innocence and deny any responsibility for what some other fool did after buying the snake oil.

Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh ... they don't really love their country.

If they did they would stop insulting the gullible to avoid setting loose the dogs of irrational hate.

Limbaugh the Father

Hannity the Son

Beck the Holy Ghost

These are by far the most evil persons from whom we should be delivered.

I get what you are saying.  I also have issues with guns.  But, I think we Americans need to get our acts together in our own communities to focus on socio-economic self help or something and get over our individualistic selves.  Because that road only is leading to increasing anti-socisl desperate acts.

Carolyn Chute writes novels about rural Maine.  I know someone who was invited by her to a meeting of the no-wing militia, just poor pretty messed up working people who are not particularly left wing or right wing, but who are a community of little people that feels that it is defending itself from the 'big' guys.  His rather positive description of his experience, as an African American from Boston, gave me a bit of a pause.
