Caitlin Ross for the 9th

Caitlin Ross is running for the 9th Distrct Legislature.
I know this one is a long shot. I'm not sure, but I don't think the last State Democratic Legislator from the 9th had any concerns about a blanket primary.
In the spirit of Chairman Dean's 50 state initiative and the need to fight on all fronts, I believe Caitlin deserves support. I recently recieved this email appeal:

Dear Friends,

In just a few weeks it will all be decided and we need your help!

We are working to raise $3,000 to to complete our mailings. Will you help so we can continue to spread our message? Please go to http://rossforthe9th.googlepages.com and contribute what you can today!

The campaign trail has taken me to countless county fairs, picnics, parades and meetings in the past two months.  I have spent one-on-one time with hundreds of people honestly discussing the issues facing our district.

The priorities I will take to Olympia are those that affect YOU.  I will give education, health care and agriculture the attention they deserve.

My candidacy has been well received. With high numbers in the primary the campaign is strong and the race is winnable but not without your continued support.  The 9th district does not belong to Republicans!

Our voices deserve to be heard! It is worthwhile to support the candidate that will make a difference.

Thank you,

Caitlin Ross

Another part of this is that, and I count myself among them, we long time Democrats need to encourage the younger generation. It take a lot of confidence to run for public office.
Even more when you're just out of college like Caitlin. And her effort this campaign season tells me that she will go far.

I'd heard that Dave Ross' daughter was running.  It's good to get an opportunity to read up on the race.

Hi Gibney. Great stuff. Thanks for posting about Ross' campaign. I had no idea.

Is there an online resource listing all of the races, candidates, and how to give them money? I hope the DNC would set up something like that, if they haven't already.

I haven't given any money to the state or nation parties or organizations this year. All my money went to individual campaigns. Mostly via ActBlue. Mostly because it's gotten a lot easier to do so. And mostly when I thought my money could make a difference.

I really like the idea of funding long-shots like Caitlin Ross. If I knew more (e.g. didn't have to do my own research), I'd probably give more. Nationwide, too.

Cheers, Jason

Following up on prior post...

The Sec of State's web site lists all the current candidates:

http://www.vote.wa.gov/Elections/CandidatesWhoHaveFiled_BallotOrder.aspx

They also publish the voter's guide.

Ray Minchew helpfully pointed out that you can find your legislative district via the Sec of State's web site:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder/

He also directed me to the Washington State House and Senate web pages:

http://www.hdcc.org/
http://www.sdcc.us/

For its part, the Washington State Dems does list local organizations by legislative district and county. Alas, the list of candidates only includes the US House and Senate races.

I guess I don't know what I'm asking for. Maybe a little bit more organizational coordination.

By way of contrast, the Washington State Republicans make it pretty easy to find their candidates.

Has anyone besides Neomie and Zappini looked a Caitlin's pages? I think the digressing discussion has been useful, but what about helping the low budget campaigns.
Her opponent, Steve Hailey has been running and raising funds since he came in third for the seat now held by Dave Buri in 2004. A single district wide mailing is all she's asking for.

Tonight was the Pullman Candidate Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the local Chamber of Commerce.
Caitlin was strong, knowledgeable, and FORCEFUL. She has being running a great campaign all over the 9th district, which I'm sure most of you don't know, is about the size of Connecticut.
She has a good grasp of the issues. And a sincere desire to represent our interests in Olympia. It should help that she will be part of the majority.
The energy of youth has been impressive here in Whitman County this election cycle. Which isn't surprising, the Young Democrats of WSU are out right amazing.  It's been a long time since a Democrat represented this district, but maybe, just maybe, the time is now.
