I know, this doesn't seem Washington related at first blush. But it's a well-written diary by a local activist and friend, and by itself shares with you some of the passion and political insight enjoyed at YK. Plus, he mentions Darcy Burner and Peter Goldmark, so I think that qualifies it. ;-)
Just Switzer trying to use his front-pager powers for good...
Several days ago I posted a diary comparing and contrasting the speeches that Mark Warner and Harry Reid gave to us on the last day of YK06. I think most people got that I wasn't necessarily comparing them in terms of a 2008 bid (Reid presumably isn't running for president in 08, Warner assuredly is), but rather it was just a tone and content thing. Warner seemed to be giving a stump speech (with lots of great content), and Reid was being more personal and was full of ideas about how he and we can work well together.
But it still had me thinking. Why did Reid's less-well-delivered speech impress me so much more? Then I got it...we're the canary in the coal mine: we can smell when it's about passion, when it's about politics, and when something just doesn't smell right.
Go read the rest of "Canary in the Coal Mine: Passion for President?" and recommend our friend el ganador!
