Firefighter and Covington City Council Member Bud Sizemore speaks for No On I-933. Washington State Council of Fire Fighters has joined with over 250 other Washington organizations to endorse "No on I-933". This measure may interfere with their ability to fight fires. | | Washington State's Office of Financial Management has just released its report on how much I-933 is going to cost us. The report is entitled: Potential Financial Impacts of I-933: Concerning Government Regulation of Private Property. Here's the crux:Initiative 933 is estimated to cost state agencies $2 billion to $2.18 billion over the next six years for compensation to property owners and administration of the measure. In the same time period, the initiative is estimated to cost cities $3.8 billion to $5.3 billion, based upon number of land-use actions since 1996, and is estimated to cost counties $1.49 billion to $1.51 billion.
Also see this Washington State Department of Ecology analysis, which says I-933 would likely mean the loss of our state's authority to enforce clean air and water regulations. The federal government would take over federal waters within the state. Air and state waterways would go unprotected. Federal sanctions against the state, including loss of some federal funding, would likely apply because we would slide out of compliance with federal clean air and water laws. |
