Federal Way School Board Bans Al Gore's Movie

An Inconvenient Truth Banned in Federal Way. Really?

An Inconvenient Truth Banned in Federal Way. Really?

It's on the AP. And Google news so far has 25 stories:

It seems to me that after attacking evolution, then global warming, next they'll start saying that if science teaches about the current rates of extinction that we must balance that view with the story of Noah's Ark.

So how should people respond to this?

Poll

What's the best evidence that Global Warming is fact?
1. Glaciers melting, photo evidence
2. Corralation, while not always causation is actually causation in this case
3. 1000 out of 1000 randomly chosen peer reviewed scientific papers all agree, global warming FACT.
4. Damn big parts of the N and S poles melting?
5. Al Gore's Movie
6. Drowning Polar Bears
7. The Bush Administration "Editing" Global Warming Papers
8. That weird season in the Cascades where, um, the Ski Areas were closed
8. 10,000 Giant Jellyfish off the coast of Japan
9. Just wait until sea level rises 40 feet in the next 50 years

Cause all the other options belong together ("one of these things just doesn't belong").

These are like people denying that the ship sinks even as the tops of their heads submerge under the waves....

Has anyone studied this psychological phenomenon, I wonder ... like those who deny the existence of the holocaust?  This characteristic seems to be held by people who are also likely to accept as "fact" beliefs that cannnot be factually proven (the existence of a particular type of God?)  And to kill and destroy on the basis of those delusions.  How did this type of insanity accrue such immense political power?

Elayne Boosler at Huffpo:
Strippers, Al Gore, and Other Things That Don't Belong in School

[excerpt]

... The parent continued his complaint against Gore's film, "The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD".

True again! (Unless it's in the Extras??) Because Al Gore doesn't belong in school (who would want an ex vice president of the United States of America teaching our children?) school board members adopted a policy that says teachers who have shown "An Inconvenient Truth" must now present "an opposing view".

And so it is for all movies shown in that school:

MOVIE: An Inconvenient Truth
OPPOSING VIEW: It's not hot in here, it's just you.

MOVIE: E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
OPPOSING VIEW: Illegal immigrants aren't cute. They never learn English.

MOVIE: March of the Penguins
OPPOSING VIEW: They're not marching, they're waddling. They didn't "lay" the eggs; they got them from a toilet seat.

MOVIE: Gone With The Wind
OPPOSING VIEW: Everything was going great until black people started making trouble for Clark Gable. At this time, the earth was ten years old.

MOVIE: The Passion of the Christ
OPPOSING VIEW: What opposing view?

MOVIE: Road to Rio
OPPOSING VIEW: Bob Hope and Bing Crosby could have taken a bus, a train, or a different route and would have had a lot less trouble along the way. Anyway, they're going to hell.

MOVIE: Citizen Kane
OPPOSING VIEW: Liberal media gets what it deserves. Rosebud is his sled, and goes to hell.

MOVIE: Inherit the Wind
OPPOSING VIEW: Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah!

Fortunately, Bush and oil companies can't control everything the government writes.  Here's a quote from the EPA: "Students, educators and school administrators can all play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions."

Perhaps it would be appropriate for our teachers to use our government's own educational materials on global warming which can be found at http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/wycd/school.html.
