Daniel Kirkdorffer at On the Road to 2008 specializes in exposing the patterns behind Dave Reichert's votes in Congress. In fact, I see him as the best source for ongoing information on
the real story behind the votes. With special maneuvers, vetoes, amendments, and preliminary votes, Reichert works with the Republican leadership to uphold special interests. When it becomes clear that nothing he does will make no difference in the outcome, Reichert votes in a way that allows him to claim that he's a "moderate". It takes investigative skill to uncover this pattern -- and clear thinking and writing to communicate it. Kirkdorffer excels in both -- and he doesn't let up.
He's not the only one who's noticed the pattern, by the way. Alica Mundy did a great piece in the PI back in 2005. I quoted it in a post where I discussed Reichert's legerdemain on health care and veterans/soldiers
Yesterday, Kirkdorffer did it again, showing step by step, in a piece entitled "Reichert Votes For Another Bill He Opposes Every Step Of The Way" how the Congressman from the 8th CD joined with his Republican colleagues this week -- seven times -- to kill legislation that rolls back Bush's nearly $14 billion tax break to Big Oil and uses the funds to develop alternative energy. Only when it became clear that the bill would pass anyway, did Reichert vote for it. Oh, well, perhaps Reichert is still "investigating" whether humans are contributing to climate change. Please go read Kirkdorffer's article and pass it on to others. It's a work of beauty.
