Protect Our Secret Ballot (w/ Poll)

King County plans to adopt mail ballot tracking. This is more than envelope tracking. It adds a unique barcode to each ballot that is linked to the voter's id. This eliminates the secret ballot, taking away all voter privacy. Unique barcodes on ballots are unconstitutional, illegal, and bad policy.

AGENDA

1 - Greeting

2 - Discuss Public Hearing Monday May 14th

King County's Citizen Election Oversight Committee has a hearing to receive public feedback on the Vote By Mail business case. This includes mail ballot tracking and new Diebold ballot counting systems. We will present information packets detailing issues and concerns. We'll encourage everyone to attend the CEOC hearing and testify.

Public Hearing: Proposed New Ballot Counting System

3 - Protect Our Secret Ballot

Tim White and Allan Rosato have sued San Juan County for adding unique barcodes to their ballots. These barcodes are linked to voter ids when the ballots are produced, before being sent to voters.

Tim and Allan will explain mail ballot tracking, the lawsuit, and their efforts to date.

Activism is not free or easy. Tim White and Allan Rosato need our donations to continue their work. There will be an appeal during this event.

I'd be more than happy with ballot receipt tracking.  Or with ballot acceptance tracking.

As to whether my received and accepted (i.e., eligibility confirmed) ballot is actually counted, I still trust the professionals at King County Elections, with continually-improving procedures and safeguards, to tally all eligible ballots they have.
