(Un)Intended Hypocrisy

I've been watching Discovery's new mini-series,
Planet Earth for the past two Sundays, moved each time by the awesome photography of the Earth's rarest moments and creatures.
However, I'm dismayed, saddened, and angry at the types of advertisers Discovery chose to sponsor the programs. Actually, it's not really surprising that certain companies want to portray the role of responsible corporate citizens, but it sometimes begins to feel as though the whole series is a cruel joke.
"Check out all these amazing animals, with their elaborate integration with the natural world. And check out how our company has nothing to do with the disintegration of nature's fabric..." Something like that.
Anyways, here are my two favorite sponsors thus far:
The reality is that these companies have effects on everyone in the world, often negative side-effects of their wholly innocent (read: lucrative) search for the next manipulation of the environment. Cascadia is an example of a threatened region because of corporate actions like the companies described here. Discovery Channel, in its infinite wisdom (read: Liberty Media Corporation) decides to play the corporate game and ignore the results, pleas from its producers, and the silent murder of Planet Earth.
