Bush's Bellevue Reception

[Front paged: NM]

I'm sure many of this blog's readers were among the 400 or so anti-Bush protesters that showed up today in Bellevue to let Bush know how the 8th Congressional District *really* feels about him...  The departure of Alberto Gonzales and Karl Rove lent something of a festive air to the occasion.  Now all that remains is for Bush and Cheney to flee to South America so this nightmare can finally end!

Here's a link to a Seattle PI article which even contains a short quote from yours truly:

I so wanted to be where the action was yesterday. But since Bush created "the worst traffic jam in Puget Sound history" I was probably right to stay in West Seattle.

and was pleased she found a mix of technology that permitted sending in the questions for the panel via email or youtube; then livestreaming the panel discussion with added aspect of chat so could interact with other viewers while simultaneously viewing the panel presenters.   Kinda nifty - bit bumpy in spots - but fascinating technology that will only get better with more use.

Since Bush doesn't 'see' the protesters and I already stood in a line of protesters he couldn't help but see in Crawford, Texas in Aug 2005 on his way to fundraiser bbq at the ranch just down the road from his place .... one time when the protesters couldn't be corraled away from his view.  There I stood with other military families letting the President know we were standing with the woman who made the pilgimage to his Crawford ranch to ask the President face to face for 'what noble cause' were the troops sent to Iraq to die?

And it was reassuring to hear that yesterday evening Vancouver took Congressman Brian Baird to task for changing his position on Iraq.  He voted no on the invasion, but now the fifth year into the occupation, he has changed his mind and come to the conclusion we need to stay in Iraq.

Hmmm, well he nor his office hasn't yet returned this military family's phone call to him yesterday.  I'd like to hear the basis of information which caused him to change his mind. I want him to know that when my sil leaves in October for his second deployment to Iraq (15-18 month deployment, btw), that Brian Baird will sleep as unevenly at night as I will in his district, here in Pacific County. The 2 returning Iraq veterans in our family  - both WA based citizens - would have some different information to convey to Brian Baird.

Oh, and Jon Soltz, returning Iraq veteran was at Darcy Burner's 'Burn Bush' panel, one of the panelists (woo hoo). And he also was there at Brian Baird's Town Hall Meeting in Vancouver last night to give some additional information for Brian Baird to consider - like not sending more troops.

Btw, BryceM, thank you for posting this diary, replete with photos and thanks Noemie for putting it on front page.
