Here in Douglas County who you are still seems to carry a lot of clout.

Commissioner Dane Keane has done it again!

This time he has damaged a county vehicle while apparently under the influence. Although this had not been said publicly subtle hints to that effect do pop up. Keane made the headlines a few years ago for driving or should I say parking while intoxicated.

That time a rookie deputy caught Keane setting in the county parking lot tossing empty beer cans from his county vehicle into the county dumpster. Many suppose that had the deputy been a little more experienced he would have just given Keane a nod & a wink and let the thing pass. Instead he gave Keane a breath test which Keane failed.

The sheriff was subsequently called; he could not come to the site of the alleged violation because he was at Fred Meyers (3 blocks away) with his wife purchasing shoes. He did tell the deputy that the breathalyzer was probably malfunctioning and another test should be done. So a State Trooper was called but the closest one was up on Blewett Pass and by the time he arrived an hour had gone by and many suspect that Keane had been encouraged to walk, talk and drink...coffee.

Keane refused to resign and the other commissioners supported Keane and apparently were quite surprised to hear that he might have a drinking problem. Meanwhile his mother told people that he was not intoxicated but instead was using pain pills for his bad BACK.

Of course the other two commissioners are still standing behind their man and defending his reckless driving in a county vehicle by saying his bad KNEE and pain pills were the problem. If I remember right he had his surgery a year or so ago. Apparently Keane much like Rush L. uses prescription pain killers on a regular basis which maybe is the norm for good Republicans.

Keane lives above us and we have asked him for years to please slow down (the speed limit is 25MPH and he goes well over that all of the time.) The last time we stopped him he told us how busy he was and that since his dad had built the road it was hard for him to remember to slow down?!?!? One of our concerns is that as more people move to Keane Grade and walk that road he will eventually hit someone. Maybe then the county will finally do something about his issues.

I guess for some of us the bottom line is that if you have the right last name you can get away with a lot of bad stuff. I know that if I was driving under the influence even if it was over the county cold medicine I would not be so lucky, how about you?

Yet here we have an elected official that has been caught twice allegedly driving under the influence whether it be  prescription drugs or alcohol in a county vehicle and he is being protected by his peers and he will most likely blow this off just like the last time, just one more good old boy  prank. Taxpayers will have to pay for repairs to the vehicle and we will continually see him speeding down the road in his personal and county rigs because he is a Keane and apparently is above the law.

What I love the most is that you actually have dealt with many of the Douglas County critters you have blogged about, face to face in many cases.

Posts like Dixies represent the exact reason why we need to participate in our democracy, and when we lax - people like Dane Keane become County Comissioners.
